This exercise is meant to help you soften body tension and nurture your physical pain.
🍁Concentrate on an area that is tense or painful. If there are multiple areas and this is your first go at this, choose an area that is less painful or has less tension.
🍁Get curious about it: How big or small is the painful area? What does it feel like? How would you describe its shape? Does it have a color? How heavy is it? What is it trying to tell you?
🍁Acknowledge the area: Gently and lovingly contact the area with your index and middle fingers together (like a closed peace sign✌🏼.) You can draw circles over the area or draw hearts over it.
🍁While contacting the area, say something kind to it or thank it for existing: An example could be: I’m so appreciative of the hard work you’re doing to protect me. Thank you for helping me continue to ______ (hike, run, work, read, hold my baby, etc.) You need rest too. Rest and soften. I love you. Rest and soften.”
Lightly contacting the area with loving touch and acknowledging the areas purpose may help soften it and lessen the suffering. Pressing hard into the deep tissue can feel good (& is necessary at times), but holding space and gently acknowledging is important in healing too.
Disclaimer: This does not take place of physical medicine such as chiropractic, massage, pt, or acupuncture. It is meant as an ancillary addition that you can take more of an active role in. You’ve got this. 🙏🏽
