Dear Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, Interpreters, Supporters, and more ...
We are planning a Lobby Day (January 15, 2026) in support of the Washington State Deaf and DeafBlind community. We want to see more positive changes on the legislative level. Please join us!

From the recent WSAD-WSRID conference discussions, we want to focus on four big issues:
1) Addressing the Interpreter Shortage;
2) Improving healthcare access for our DHHDB community, especially psychiatric healthcare;
3) LEAD-K;, and
4) DeafBlind supports.

Goals: Secure legislative commitment and support for funding an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) and improve healthcare access for our Deaf community in Washington State during the 2026 session.

What success looks like: Legislators leave our meetings understanding the severity of the interpreter shortage (~400 qualified interpreters for 250,000 Deaf/HoH people), recognize the ripple effects across healthcare, education, employment, and public services, and commit to championing ITP funding in the upcoming session.
