ANAs change a lot, and don’t always reflect the full picture of what you’re dealing with! In this clip from a recent TikTok Live, Dr. Bennett and Dr. Stocker dig into the nuance of ANAs and why a positive or negative result might not make or break a diagnosis.

If you have more questions about autoimmune disease, chronic illness, or women’s health, join us next Thursday, January 29 at 2:30 PM PT for our next TikTok Live! Link is in the comments 💙

If you’re dealing with a variety of histamine-related symptoms, you may need multiple types of antihistamines in order to reduce your symptoms. One problem: We have four different types of histamine receptors in our bodies, and the available medications only work on two of them! Dr. Windsor talks about the different histamine receptors and the medications available now to help relieve your symptoms.

Did you know that histamine can lower your threshold for pain triggers? Dr. Windsor explains how histamine interacts with your pain receptors, and explains why treatments for histamine often also help alleviate chronic pain.

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we are calling attention to the racial disparities he fought against — and specifically, how those racial disparities impact healthcare for people with autoimmune diseases. Did you know that non-white women with autoimmune disease experience mortality rates 3-6 times higher than their white counterparts? It’s unacceptable that this is still our reality in 2026, and that’s why we do what we do at Aria Integrative Medicine — because everyone deserves compassionate, holistic, and effective medical care.

EBV can be such a nightmare, because there’s a good chance the virus sticks with you forever, but you also never know whether it’s going to trigger other symptoms or autoimmune responses. Research is finally acknowledging the connection between EBV and autoimmune diseases, and we’re hopeful that new treatments will develop from there. In the meantime, we love our antivirals, whether they’re pharmaceuticals or herbs, and often recommend a combined course depending on the patient’s needs.

Biote pellets are a mixed bag, and we don’t love using them because of the way hormones and autoimmune diseases interact. What happens if you have an adverse reaction? Or the introduction of HRT causes your symptoms to flare? Pellets can’t be removed, so you could be stuck with the outcome for months. Our preference is always to go for other forms of HRT that can be stopped or removed in the event that those hormones cause you additional problematic symptoms!

There are tons of studies that have come out showing the connection between Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and other autoimmune conditions, especially ANA conditions like lupus, Sjogren’s and scleroderma. We’ll share more of these in the coming weeks, but one especially interesting recent study on lupus finally shows us what the direct correlation is! We hope we’ll see similar findings about Sjogren’s and other autoimmune conditions going forward — the more we can understand these conditions, the better we can treat them!

We are excited to welcome Dr. Sierra Windsor to the team at Aria Integrative Medicine! Dr. Windsor is a licensed Naturopathic Physician and Acupuncturist trained at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She completed 2 years of residency specializing in naturopathic gastroenterology and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

She believes that, as the patient, you are the expert of your body and experience, and that each person manifests illness uniquely. Her goal is to design individualized treatment plans to help patients achieve the best outcomes possible. She is passionate about integrating both Western and Eastern medicine into treatments and empowering patients to take an active role in their healing.

Outside of the clinic, she loves to rock climb, travel, and explore the amazing restaurants of Seattle.

You’ll be seeing her soon in our TikTok Lives, and she’s now available for in-person and virtual appointments! You can book with her through our website at the link in the comments.

Every provider gets into medicine for their own reasons. For Dr. Bennett, it was her own family’s history of autoimmune disease — specifically, her grandma’s psoriasis. Now, she runs a clinic focused on the treatment of autoimmune disease and chronic illness.

Chronic illness and autoimmune conditions — especially ones as visible as psoriasis — are challenging to live with. But sharing your experience with others can sometimes lead to unexpected positive outcomes 💙

Immunosuppressants and being fully immunosuppressed are two different things. A lot of medications are designed to target a specific part of your immune system, leaving the rest of your system intact and operational. There are situations where an immunosuppressant can leave you vulnerable to other illnesses, but the symptoms themselves are unlikely to immediately worsen — it’s more of a slow build-up over time.

In addition to dry eyes and mouth, Sjogren’s can also cause a burning mouth sensation. This could be just because of a lack of saliva, or it could be because of Sjogren’s interaction with other viruses — especially herpes viruses — that might be present. Dr. Bennett talks about how she troubleshoots these cases to figure out the best way to treat them.

Did you know that people living with autoimmune disease are more likely to need blood transfusions because of higher rates of iron deficiency and anemia? That’s why it’s so important to give blood if you can — it’s an incredible way to give back to your community, and support patients in need. January is National Blood Donor Month, so if you’ve never done it before, now is a great time to get started!
