I recently had a lovely experience receiving sound healing at a friend’s new pyramid! John is a talented builder and a healer. He combined these two skills and has spent the last few years building a pyramid on his property according to intentional specifications.

What a delight to receive his offerings on his opening day 🥰 Stay tuned for more offerings coming from PNW Pyramid in West Seattle 🙏🏼

Spring ‘Cleaning’ begins!

In Ayurveda, we cleanse and detoxify every spring as the season shifts.

Kitchari is amazing for digestive health. It’s generally tridoshic & balancing for all doshas. This recipe includes warm & sweet flavors, easy to digest rice & lentils, & root vegetables - making it ideal for Vata in particular. If you’re Pitta or Kapha, simply substitute herbs & veggies to your preference.

Optional ingredients: rock salt or liquid aminos, vegetables such as carrots, chard, parsnips, sweet potato or yam; additional herbs and seasonings such as fennel, cilantro, lime, and shredded coconut to garnish.

Cooking Instructions for Vata balancing Kitchari:

1. Rinse split mung beans until water runs clear. Soak in 2 cups of water over night; drain & rinse.

2. Warm ghee in saucepan. Add cumin seeds & asafoetida - saute for 1 minute.

3. Add freshly ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, grated ginger root, cinnamon stick, cloves, & cardamom pods & saute another minute

4. Add split mung dhal & saute for another couple of minutes, being careful not to let spices burn

5. Add water & pinch of baking soda. Cover and simmer low heat for approx. 20 minutes.

6. Meanwhile, rinse basmati rice until water runs clear.

7. Add rice to cooking beans & spices when beans are half cooked (after approx. 20 minutes)

8. If adding vegetables, add the longer cooking vegetables at the same time as the rice. Continue to cook for 15-20 minutes or until rice is fully cooked. Add more water as necessary to keep a soupy consistency, which is best for Vata. It’s ok to cook for a longer period w/ added liquids (inducing a mushy appearance), making the dish ideal for easy digestion

9. Add leafy greens five minutes before kitchari is complete

10. Season w/ option herbs & garnish

Happy first day of spring! 🌸

This photo is from last year's Spring Equinox Sound Bath. My son is my best and most intuitive helper - reading my mind with every cue. All the gratitude for the help and support I receive 🙏 I'm looking forward to hosting our 6th annual event this evening 🥰☀️

The sound bath has reached capacity, so we are no longer accepting reservations. If you have RSVP'd, you should have received an email confirmation with event details. If not, please let me know right away.

I look forward to holding space with our community as we set intentions for this new season in the fresh new energy of spring! 🌸☀️🙏

In Ayurveda, spring is Kapha season, meaning there’s an increase in the earth and water elements, which can lead to heaviness, stagnation, and congestion if not balanced properly. As the weather warms, it’s an ideal time to detox, lighten up, and invigorate the body and mind. Here are some key Ayurvedic protocols for transitioning into spring:

1. Adjust Your Diet: Favor Light, Warm, & Dry Foods

Since Kapha is heavy, moist, and cool, balance it with:
✔ Warm, light, and dry foods like steamed greens, quinoa, and lentils
✔ Pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes (spices, leafy greens, turmeric, ginger, radish)
✔ Reduce dairy, heavy oils, and cold, damp foods (avoid excess wheat, fried foods, ice-cold drinks, and sugary treats)

2. Cleanse & Detoxify

Spring is the best time for Ayurvedic cleansing to clear out winter sluggishness:
✔ Start the day with warm lemon water to flush toxins
✔ Drink CCF tea (cumin, coriander, fennel) to aid digestion
✔ Try a gentle kitchari cleanse for a few days to reset digestion (Kitchari recipe to be posted this week!)
✔ Dry brushing (Garshana) to stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow

3. Move & Sweat Daily

To counteract Kapha’s heaviness, keep moving:
✔ Morning movement is best—try dynamic yoga, brisk walking, or cardio workouts
✔ Sun salutations, backbends, and invigorating breathwork (Bhastrika or Kapalabhati) help clear congestion
✔ Get outside! Sunlight naturally balances Kapha

4. Shift Your Daily Routine (Dinacharya)

✔ Wake up early (before 6 AM) to avoid Kapha sluggishness
✔ Abhyanga (self-massage) with warming oils like mustard or dry brushing instead
✔ Lighten up mentally—avoid over-sleeping, excess screen time, and emotional heaviness

5. Herbal Support

✔ Trikatu (ginger, black pepper, long pepper) to ignite digestion
✔ Turmeric & honey to combat congestion
✔ Chyawanprash for immunity and energy

6. Align with the Season

Spring is about renewal and lightness—let go of the past, clear out clutter, and set fresh intentions. Just as the earth awakens, this is your time to detox, energize, and bloom.
