November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Type 2 diabetes affects nearly 1 in 10 Americans, but the good news is, small changes can make a big difference in prevention and blood sugar balance.
💡
Wellness Tip: Start your day with a balanced breakfast, think oatmeal with chia seeds, nuts, and berries, or a veggie omelet. Skipping breakfast can actually raise your blood sugar later in the day!

At Bastyr University Clinics, our licensed naturopathic physicians and registered dietitians offer personalized support to help you find balance and take charge of your health.

July is UV Safety Month! Hre’s what you really need to know about sunscreen:

✅ SPF 30–50 is enough (higher isn’t always better!)
✅ Creams > sprays (sprays can miss spots + pose inhalation risks) But sunscreen alone isn’t enough. Think shade, hats, UPF clothing, and avoiding peak sun hours (10am–4pm).
✅ Look for broad-spectrum on the label (protects against both UVA + UVB)

Curious about herbs that support cognitive health and stress resilience?
Ashwagandha is a well-known adaptogen that’s been studied for its potential to promote a balanced stress response, support healthy testosterone levels, and help protect brain cells from oxidative stress.

While it’s not a cure-all, incorporating herbs like ashwagandha, alongside a foundation of good nutrition, regular movement, and quality sleep, can be a helpful way to support long-term wellness.

This month at Bastyr University Clinic, we’re sharing a smoothie recipe that blends ashwagandha with leafy greens, fruit, and healthy fats:

Green Adaptogen Smoothie
1 frozen banana
½ cup pineapple
1 handful of baby spinach
1½ cups unsweetened nut milk
⅓ cup plain unsweetened yogurt
½–1 tsp ashwagandha powder
½ tsp maca powder

Blend until smooth.

Want to learn more about adaptogens or stress support from a naturopathic perspective? Bastyr University Clinic providers can help you explore options tailored to your health goals.
