"So I like to help people build a relationship with life, build a relationship with their experiences of anxiety, and find ways to connect with the present moment and exist in a way that feels less laborsome."

Socratic questioning is often used during CBT as a way to help clients overcome patterns of negative thinking and as a means to develop one's own self-discovery. To learn more about the process and type of questions used in this dialogue, check out of entry in the Encyclopedia of Psychology.

Case Lovell, LMHC has been a full-time therapist with our practice for over 5 years, specializing in anxiety-related disorders, panic, substance abuse, depression, and additional diagnoses such as bipolar disorder and ADHD. He notes:

"My clients are often independent, driven, and don't often ask for help. They like to tackle their problems head-on, but don't know how to fix this new problem. They can be their own harshest critic, and though that has helped them succeed in the past, now that voice has turned on them and is tearing them down. On the outside, everything looks fine, but on the inside they feel like they are drowning. They can feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unable to control their feelings.
As a therapist, my goal is to empower my clients to make the changes that need to be made in their life. Together we work to figure out where they want their life to be, what is holding them back, and how to get past those obstacles. I see myself as a guide and a partner, who can empower my clients to take control back in their life. I am a warm and supportive listener, who can help my clients tap into their own inner strengths."
