Congratulations to Willie Hawkins, Angio Technologist, on winning the October employee of the Month!

Here is what his nomination says: " With each patient that Willie has the opportunity to treat, he makes sure they leave the Angio suite with a smile. The patient can be going through the worst day of their life and Willie will brighten their day with his patient care and just by taking the time to get to know them.

In addition, there was a code STEMI being wheeled into the cath lab, the patient was awake and talking when they laid him back to move him on to our table, about half way on the move the patient coded and they lost pulses. Willie quickly pulled the patient onto the stretcher and started CPR. Fast-forward 2 weeks I did the follow-up cath on the patient who was talking to me about the nice gentleman that was talking to him and then started CPR and saved his life. This is just an example of Willie's quick response and wonderful patient care in our Angio/cardiac department.

Willie always puts his patients above all else. He values his team here at HMC and will do anything for his Angio family. I cannot think of an employee who deserves this award more."

Congratulations to Susan Finch, RN this month’s Harborview “Hero for Kids” award winner!

Susan’s care and compassion shines through when helping children through difficult wound care, supporting them during physical assessments, or adjusting to the emotional impact of the accidents and events that brought them to Harborview. She instinctively modifies her approach based on the patient's age and developmental level and works equally well with infants and teens. For her joy, creativity and commitment to pediatric nursing, we are pleased to recognize Susan as a Harborview Hero for Kids!

What Our Patients Are Saying: "I had the best medical experience in my life [at Harborview]. The doctors [were] excellent. They always checked on me and informed me of the plan they had for me. I remember one time, I was a bit worried but the doctors assured me... and this made my morale go high and I started thinking positively about my recovery. The nurses did their best [and]...did excellent job. Oh how I miss them!! The hospital assistants also did their best. In general my experience was good in [every way]." - 5E Patient

Congratulations to Amy M., RN, 9MB for winning the Daisy Award!!!

Here is what the nomination said: "Amy and I have worked together for just over a year in the TSICU. In that year I have watched her give her patients the most excellent care. The compassion and kindness that make up her core make her a blessing to her patients and her quick wit and brilliance make her an incredible coworker. Recently, Amy has left me more in awe of her than I was before (which I did not know was possible). In April, she volunteered to go to a small hospital in Chicago to work on their COVID ICU. She has told stories of this place that sound exhausting (high nurse: patient ratios, sweat soaked PPE), however when asked if she’d go back she said she would!" - HMC Staff Member

Congratulations to Laura T., Dietician, for WINNING the Harborview Medical Center March Employee of the Month!!

Here is what the nomination said: She's very compassionate and thoughtful. She always manages to find our team and discuss plans in a professional and prompt manner. She always asks or gives us heads up before she places orders on our patients. Truly one of the most courteous and approachable people in the hospital. Many times, when our patients are not eating or have poor PO intake overall, she has already likely went and spoke with the patient to discover patient/cultural specific food preferences that would encourage the patient to eat more. She finds ways to communicate with our patients at a level that I think is unique. Often, these patients are disoriented or in pain, and the last thing on their minds may be food and nutrition. She still finds a way to make sure that the patients feel heard. - HMC Staff Member

Congratulations to Emily B. RN, for winning the Daisy Award!!

Here is what the nomination said: "Emily is one of the most dedicated nurses on our unit; she exudes compassion, tact, skill, and interpersonal strength! She strives to validates the needs of a very difficult patient population, and treats each one as important, worthwhile, and deserving of the brightest future possible. She is still relatively new to her practice but is already training to be charge and has recognition as a leader among our team. She is kind, funny, and upbeat. At the same time, she recognizes her own strengths and weaknesses; she plays into her strengths and consults staff when she encounters a gap in her knowledge or skills in order to get the best possible outcome. Overall ++++. Give this lady a Daisy!!" - HMC Staff Member
