In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, we understand that the heart of yoga is to cease the fluctuations of the mind, “Yogas citta vrtti nirodhah” (sutra 1:2). We practice each limb of yoga to experience peace, liberation, and to confront the obstacles that cause suffering. We know this is a long and difficult, yet needed, journey of individual and collective healing. It requires us to meet the present moment, show up with honest effort, and not to be fooled by delusion or fear. We practice the ethical standards, yamas (first limb of yoga), when we reject violence (ahimsa), seek truth (satya), refuse to steal (asteya), or covet anything from others (aparigraha), as we moderate and use our energy rightly (brahmacharya). At Halea, we aim to practice what we’ve been taught.
That is why this Friday, 1/30, during the national strike, Halea Yoga will donate 50% of all sales to and . We stand in solidarity not just with Minnesota, but with every community being terrorized by ICE raids, be that physically or even psychologically. At Halea Yoga, we believe in the inherent worth of every person. We believe in compassion, community, and standing up for all members that make up the communal ecosystem. The yoga studio has always been a sacred third space for us to go to during our brightest and darkest days, and we will always continue to be that place for you.
