A gentle reminder that healing doesnโ€™t mean never getting triggered or staying calm all the time.

Being triggered is part of being human.

Healing is about what happens next - regulating sooner, pausing, responding instead of reacting.

When we feel overwhelmed, we often become blended with the feeling.

โ€œI am angry.โ€
โ€œI am anxious.โ€

In Internal Family Systems, we recognize that you are not the feeling itself. A part of you feels this way.

Asking one simple question, โ€œWhat part of me feels this way?โ€ creates space between you and the emotion, invites curiosity, and allows Self energy to lead.

I used to think I could push down the hard emotions and still feel the good ones. But I couldnโ€™t.

The same door that blocks pain also blocks joy.

If youโ€™ve been feeling worse lately, it might actually be a sign of progress.

Many people believe that nervous system regulation means feeling calm all the time. But that is a myth.

As Synergetic Play Therapist Lisa Dion teaches,

So when you begin to regulate your nervous system, you become more attuned to your thoughts, emotions, and sensations. This new awareness can feel intense and uncomfortable. You might even feel worse at first.

But connection means noticing, naming, and allowing yourself to feel whatโ€™s present, even the hard emotions.

This isnโ€™t a setback. Itโ€™s a sign of progress. It means youโ€™re connecting with yourself.
If youโ€™ve ever felt โ€œworse before betterโ€ on your healing journey, youโ€™re not alone.
