Welcome to the world of Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT)! AAT provides a cutting edge, interactive, and positive approach to therapy. Animals as non-judgmental, present-focused, and reflective beings offer a unique opportunity for self-exploration and self-growth. Working with animals in a safe, supportive, interactive and playful environment allows for personal work to naturally occur. We just held our Ranch Experience Day this past Saturday, and it was an honor to witness healing and healthcare professionals shed layers of stress and overwhelm, allowing themselves to reconnect with their presence and authenticity.
Here are some participant reflections:

🐐 “This felt special to me in a way I haven’t felt before and, as a mental health and yoga professional, I’ve had many experiences in shared space. This felt different, so nourishing, and so special.”

So much gratitude for this guy, therapy sheep Dillon, for showing up with the presence, attunement, connection, and acknowledgement that sometimes only non-human animals can provide.

Interesting watching herd roles and dynamics with non human animals. Therapy goat Kai (all white goat) quickly took on a protector role with his mixed herd when a large branch came down in their pasture. He was the first one out to orient and assess the situation, determining safety, the others followed and quickly shifted into curiosity turning the fallen branch into snacks and a scratching post! What roles do you think you hold in your herd?

Our therapy horses didn’t have access to their primary daytime pasture turnout for 72hrs due to the recent storms. They still had access to turn out a few hours a day but not their usual routine of graze/forage, roll, sleep, move, and maybe play. I observed it starting to take a toll on them emotionally, physically, and behaviorally and man were they were they so excited to get back out into their field. You can imagine the effects environment has on both human and non-human animals. This video captures their first few minutes of turnout including rolling it off and blowing off some steam!
