She is the quiet thaw of the land, the sap beginning to rise, the spark in the hearth, and the milk in the ewe. She is the tender green shoot, the first yellow bloom, the earth’s soft awakening, and the vow of Spring’s return! 🌱🌀🙏🏼🌀🌱

Every time we visit these wild and holy places our ancestral souls brim with the effervescent remembrance of what it once meant to be an exquisite indigenous human upon the earth.

These ancient stones echo tales of a not-so-distant past when humans regarded all life as sentient, each day as a ceremony, and every breath as a prayer.

In this sacred valley we can still…

Hear the pounding of the acorn wiwiish upon the grinding stone…

Gaze upon the grizzly lumbering through golden fields….

See clouds reflected in crystalline rivers snaking through the gaping mouth of Ahwahnee…

Feel the nimble fingers threading pine needles into Chuck’ah baskets underneath the flickering cottonwood…

Taste the tender clover, manzanita fruit, nupa, wild grapes, and gooseberries gathered reverently in our hands…

Caress the plump cheeks of infants cradled in deerskin bundles upon their mothers’ backs…

All while bowing to the Sun as He castes his fiery arrows upon veils of misty water draping from the sky.

Here in Ahwahnee we can…

See the untamed beauty in the ancestral faces of who we used to be.

Hear the grand poem that sings at the center of every being.

Smell the intoxicating aroma of true belonging.

Feel the earth blessing our every step.

And Taste an unfettered freedom that beckons us to become these polished, wild, and rooted humans once again!

Tonight as we honor the rebirth of the world from the dark womb of winter, we are all invited to enter back into the womb of Mother’s Night where dreams take shape!

If you’d like to kindle a vision for this potent Yule eve, you can prepare a soul crafting ritual with your littles by making a dream pillow with lavender, mugwort and calendula.

Before bedtime place the bundle under your pillows and set an intention for what you’d like to ask for. Invoke Mother Night aka Mother Winter and call in a dream, a gift, or guidance.

In the morning share your dreams and then continue to use this practice throughout the twelve nights of Yule or simply offer your herbs and your gratitude back to the earth.

How is everyone coping with the world continuing to speed up despite all our best efforts to slow down? It feels like a spiritual battle for me…every day my soul grasps for more connection with Spirit, Self, and the WildFlowering Animate Earth but it’s becoming harder and harder to find the time to tend to these relationships.

For many of us “spiritual orphans” it can also feel challenging to find a path that we can authentically and rightfully claim. We might feel like we are piecing together a tapestry of spirituality from multiple traditions.

I always appreciate when the Wheel turns and a new season begins because the Celtic Wheel of the Year is a huge part of what tethers me to my Soul, Ancestral Wisdom, and the Soul of the Earth.

If you are with me and longing to reclaim more of your own Earth-based spirituality, consider joining me this season for MotherRoot’s Sacred Circle. I designed this group to include all that I’ve ever personally yearned for myself in a group!
