My days have never been just about appointments — and they never will be.

Happy Monday, friends! Dr. G here 👋

Here’s a fun fact for you: in North America, we buy more than 3 million miles of dental floss every year. For perspective—that’s enough to go to the moon and back six times! 🌙🚀

It’s recommended to use about 18” of floss each day… which adds up to the height of the Washington Monument every year per person. Pretty wild, right?

Of course, with water flossers becoming more popular, some of that string is being swapped for streams. So tell me—👇

Either way, I’m proud of you for keeping those smiles FLOSSOME 😁

🌟 Mentorship Matters 🌟

One of the biggest blessings in my career has been the opportunity to not only create smiles for patients, but also to pour into the next generation of orthodontists.

Recently, I had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Kate O’Donnell into the office to shadow me for the day. She came eager to learn, asked great questions, and brought such a positive energy. It was fun to share not only the clinical side of orthodontics, but also how we care for patients and run the practice as a team.

Dr. Kate later surprised me with this thoughtful note, and I have to say—it meant the world. Moments like this remind me that mentorship matters. Just as I’ve been blessed with teachers and mentors who guided me, I want to do the same for young doctors who will go on to make their own impact.

Kate, thank you for your kind words—and I can’t wait to see all the incredible things you’ll accomplish. I’m cheering you on every step of the way!

“Snack Smart” for Braces Success

School lunches and snacks are part of the fun—but when you have braces, not all foods are smile-friendly.

Here’s the scoop from Dr. G:
🚫 Skip: Sticky, chewy, or super hard foods (think caramel, gum, hard candy, popcorn, nuts). They can damage brackets or get stuck in tricky spots.
✅ Yes Please: Soft, braces-friendly snacks like cheese sticks, yogurt, apple slices (cut up), grapes, bananas, or a soft granola bar.

Pro Tip: Pack a small, reusable water bottle so your child can rinse after eating. It’s a quick way to keep things fresh until they can brush.

Little changes = big results when it comes to keeping smiles healthy and on track.

🚌🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL: Part 1 🍎✏️

This week is all about new backpacks, fresh pencils, and for many of our G-Fam kids… and heading back to school with braces!

We know how important it is for our students to feel confident, comfortable, and ready for anything their smile journey throws their way. So today, we’re sharing one of our favorite tips for a successful school year with braces:

👉 Make a Braces Care Kit for their backpack or locker.

It’s a simple way to set your child up for success and keep them smiling through the school day.

Here’s what we recommend including:
🪥 Soft-bristled toothbrush
🦷 Fluoride toothpaste
🧵 Dental floss
🛡️ Dental wax
💄 Lip balm
🌀 Extra elastics (if they’re in that stage of treatment)

Why it matters:
✔️ Brackets and wires love to “hold onto” food—brushing after lunch helps keep their smile clean and healthy.
✔️ Dental wax can ease irritation from brackets or wires, helping your child focus on class instead of discomfort.
✔️ Lip balm helps combat dryness—especially in those first few weeks of braces when everything is still new.

And remember—if your child ever has discomfort or damage to a bracket/wire, we’re just a call away. We’ll get them in ASAP because their comfort is always our top priority.

Huge thank you to Nancy Rodriguez and Noey DeSantiago who made this happen. Your thoughtfulness, creativity, and attention to detail blew me away. Every time I see this little guy on my desk, I can’t help but smile (and maybe give it a nod or two 😉).
