A slip-and-fall or auto accident can lead to spine injuries that don’t always show up right away. If neck or back pain lingers, it’s important to get the right evaluation.

At NASPI, we start with a comprehensive assessment to understand the root cause of your pain. Treatment begins conservatively, but if those don’t provide relief, minimally invasive procedures may be the next step.

Our goal is simple: the right treatment, at the right time, for you.

Herniated Disc vs. Bulging Disc — What’s the Difference? 🤔

Back or neck pain can disrupt your life—but understanding the cause is the first step toward real relief.

At North American Spine and Pain Institute (NASPI), we help patients pinpoint whether their pain is coming from a bulging disc or a herniated disc—because while they’re often confused, they’re not the same.

👉 Bulging Disc
• Disc extends outward but stays intact
• Often caused by aging or wear & tear
• Symptoms may be mild—or not noticeable at all

👉 Herniated Disc
• Outer layer tears, allowing inner material to leak
• More likely to press on nerves
• Can cause sharp, radiating pain, numbness, or weakness

Why it matters:
A herniated disc is typically more severe and more likely to require advanced treatment—while many bulging discs can be managed conservatively.

At NASPI, we use advanced imaging and minimally invasive treatments to create personalized care plans—focused on relieving pain and restoring your quality of life without unnecessary surgery.

Don’t ignore the signs:
If you’re experiencing persistent pain, numbness, tingling, or pain radiating into your arms or legs—it’s time to get evaluated.

Get answers. Get relief. Get back to living.

Schedule your consultation today.

Herniated Disc: Simply Explained

In this video, we’re using a simple spine model to show what happens during a herniated (or “slipped”) disc.

Between each vertebra in your spine is a soft cushion called a disc. These discs act like shock absorbers, helping your spine move and absorb pressure from everyday activities.
When a disc becomes herniated or bulges outward, part of the soft inner material pushes through the outer layer of the disc. When that bulging material presses against a nearby nerve, it can lead to symptoms like:

• Back or neck pain• Radiating pain down the arms or legs• Numbness or tingling• Muscle weakness

This simple model demonstrates how pressure on the spine can cause the disc to push outward and irritate the nerve.

At the North American Spine and Pain Institute, we specialize in diagnosing and treating spinal conditions like herniated discs with advanced, minimally invasive treatments designed to relieve pain and restore mobility.

If you’re struggling with persistent back or nerve pain, getting the right diagnosis is the first step toward relief.

Think rest is the best remedy for back pain? Think again.

While short periods of rest may help with acute injuries, relying on rest alone for chronic back pain can actually make symptoms worse. When pain lasts 12 weeks or longer, it often involves deeper issues like muscle weakness, joint stiffness, and increased nerve sensitivity.

Too much inactivity can weaken the muscles that support your spine, reduce flexibility, slow healing, and even increase pain sensitivity. Over time, this can make everyday movements more difficult.

Movement is often a key part of recovery. The right treatment plan can help:

✔ Strengthen muscles that support the spine
✔ Improve mobility and flexibility
✔ Increase circulation and healing
✔ Restore healthy movement patterns

At North American Spine and Pain Institute, our specialists perform comprehensive evaluations to identify the root cause of your pain and develop personalized treatment plans designed to restore function and improve quality of life.

If your back pain lasts more than a few weeks, radiates into your arms or legs, or interferes with daily activities, it may be time to seek professional care.
