The Year of the Snake has started, and the vibes are all about renewal and regeneration.

Lunar New Year — which includes Chinese New Year, Seollal in Korea, Tet in Vietnam and more — begins on Jan. 29, kicking off more than two weeks of parties, customs and copious feasts.

Though the snake may get a bad rap across many Western cultures, the animal is actually a celebrated and revered sign across the Eastern hemisphere. And its year is expected to be one of positive transformation as people slither into new beginnings — if they’re willing to move on.

Matching up with the years of people born in 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013 and 2025, the snake is most commonly associated with intelligence, resilience and love.

Frankincense & Myrrh are traditionally used together so often that it's hard to separate the two.

Frankincense tends to receive more attention in literature, so let’s learn a little more about its equal ally, Myrrh.

Myrrh was used generously by Egyptians in worship, medicine, and perfumery. The oil and resin were considered an expensive gift in ancient Egypt.

Temple and tomb walls contain images of cones that were made with Myrrh, Marjoram, and Lotus Flowers. They were placed on the heads of guests and the resins would slowly melt onto their hair and body to be used as an ointment.

Egyptians would also use Myrrh in the mummification process, soaking the fine clothing of the mummy in melted Myrrh resin mixed with oils. It was said that the aroma of Myrrh filled the Nile air.
