In honor of Alcohol Awareness month, this 4-part series on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is brought to you by the 3 consortia of the Perinatal Addictions Prevention Project, a statewide effort to reduce the number of substance exposed pregnancies. Remember, there is no safe time and no safe amount of alcohol to consume during pregnancy. We kicked off Black Maternal Health Week this weekend, alongside the Montclair Deltas, with a powerful day filled with joy, support, and community care.

Over 100 moms and moms-to-be connected with local resources, received health screenings, enjoyed refreshments, took home diapers and wipes, and had a chance to win incredible raffle prizes.

We were honored to be joined by community health advocates and leaders, including our keynote speaker, Aarin Williams, Esq.; Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Newark City Councilperson Rev. Louise Scott-Rountree, Linda Sloan Locke, BSN, MPH, LSW, FACNM, and others, who shared powerful insights on maternal health and a strong start to maternity.

We are incredibly grateful for every family, partner, and advocate who showed up for Black Maternal Health.

We had a great session last week at the Center for Clinical Impact for our AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety (OPS): OB Emergencies Workshop. This course focuses on various obstetric emergencies that may occur at any point during pregnancy or in the postpartum period. The workshop is ideal for nurses early in their obstetric career, ER or ICU staff interested in improving their skills when caring for perinatal patients, and experienced doulas seeking a deeper understanding of the clinical rationale behind medical interventions during OB emergencies.
