Leila (aka Pony) has some new friends! These two minis joined our herd yesterday.

Right now they’re getting used to the space and each other. Last weekend a crew came out and helped us get fencing in place so that we can allow them to get to know each other slowly through a fence. This also helps make sure that no one shares any sneaky germs.

In about a week, we’ll remove some of the barriers and let them all get to know each other even better.

Keep an eye on our posts for some fun videos. These little guys know some cool tricks and are going to be the highlight for our groups that start up in just a few weeks!

It can be easy to focus on the negatives, but when we pause, for just a moment, and look closely there’s often incredible beauty.

This mural is along the Plum Creek Trail in Castle Rock. At first, I only saw the graffiti - the negative message that “You are NOT enough”. It made me sad, but I paused. I looked closer. That’s when I saw the beauty…

“You’re much, much more!”

So many of our clients, so many of our volunteers, so many of our team have felt the pressure of “not being enough”. It’s our hope that time at The Mane Mission helps remind us all…

We may have had a few cloudy days here in Colorado, but we’ve been busy getting The Mane Mission ready for our Spring and Summer groups that serve individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Our first groups join us on May 5th!

We love our friends .pathways! This past weekend we got to participate in their FestAbility celebrating disabilities awareness month.

We’re in countdown mode until our friends come back to spend time with us at the barn. Our first groups start on May 5th!

Each Tuesday and Wednesday we have friends with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities join us for fun filled days at the barn. We dance. We hang with the animals. We do crafts. We shoot archery. Sometimes we break out the stick horses too.

The Mane Mission crew spent Sunday celebrating Disabilities Awareness Month with old friends and new ones. Special thanks to .pathways for putting together a fantastic day for all of us!

So great to be surrounded by like minded organizations who not only support individuals and families with disabilities, but seek to provide them with opportunities to see all that is possible.

There were organizations facilitating crafts and one even gave folks an opportunity to serve others by packing goodie bags in a hand decorated tote for those that are unhoused. There were another organizations that gave participants a chance to be a rock star or star of the dance floor. Meanwhile, we had fun racing stick horses, shooting archery, and even brought our resident balloon artist to entertain the crowds with her balloon animals.

While we often post photos of the animals, it's moments like this that capture what The Mane Mission is all about. We're about creating opportunities for EVERYONE to rise to new challenges. Sometimes, it's giving one of our friends who uses a wheelchair the opportunity to shoot archery. Sometimes, it's challenging ourselves to think about ways to make it accessible. In this photo, Mike is in a wheelchair next to our friend so he can 'walk a mile in his shoes'. No matter what - each of us has a chance to try. To sometimes fail. To always succeed.

Whether we hit the target every time or not, each moment is an opportunity to learn and that's success in our book.

What a beautiful day and a treat to share The Mane Mission with two new partners. Met with the founder of and brainstormed ways to collaborate. She’s hoping to bring her student leaders out for a session of community service and then some planning time for the upcoming year.

Then shared what we do with two special needs teachers from a local high school so that we can have their students join us for one of our camps in May before school is out and again in the fall.

This is what we’re all about - relationships - and finding ways to support each other!
