The Sacred Wheel Turns: Mid-Winter Festivals
Imbolc/Candelmas/Brighid's Day
February 1st- 3rd, 2026

February 2nd, marks the sacred turning point of Imbolc, also known as Candelmas, St.Brighid's Day and Groundhog Day.
Imbolc, the ancient Celtic name for this time of year, literally means "in milk" and ‘in the belly’. Imbolc marks the start of the lactation period for the ewes and cows and beginning of the new agricultural year.

It has been celebrated since ancient times in the Celtic and Goddess traditions as a sacred turning point in the Great Wheel of the Year. It is one of the 8 Sabbats, High Holy Days, that includes the Solstices and Equinoxes and the 4 mid-points in between that are the more mystical and subtle sacred moments of the year that include: Imbolc, Beltane, Lammas/ Lughnasad and Samhain.

Imbolc marks the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox up here in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is the mid-point between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, and the sacred turning point of Lammas/Lughnasad, the first harvest when the Earth is bursting with life and things are coming to fruition!

But up here in the North, as the Earth still lies barren, we begin to sense the first stirrings of Spring as the sap begins to rise in the trees around us, and the sparks of new life begin to stir within the seeds and within our own soul.

This is one of my favorite sacred times in the Great Wheel of the Year and I always honor this sacred festival of Imbolc for a whole week.

This year, the actual astrological mid-point is this Tuesday, February 3rd, when the Sun is at 15 degrees of Aquarius, exactly half way between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. This sacred time of ‘Mid-Winter’ in the Great Wheel of the Year has many names and deeper meanings.

Before I ever knew what and when ‘Imbolc’ was, during childhood growing up in Michigan, I often struggled during the cold month of February. But once I started tuning into this most subtle and mystical time of year, things really began to shift for me every year at this time.

When we stop and pause, being with the still silence of this time, we begin to feel the first stirrings of Spring ever so gently, deep within the Dark Womb of Mother Earth. Here the first sparks of new life begin to stir, in the seeds, in the animals, deep within our souls, within our womb-bellies, but ever so subtly.

Perhaps at first, we may experience this as an uneasiness, or as an unrest in our soul. But the beauty of this unrest is that it prompts us to reach deep inside our souls, to search for something new that is longing and waiting to be germinated and birthed in our lives. It is in the still darkness of the void that the Light is reborn.

It is now, at Imbolc, that the first sparks of inspiration slowly begin to awaken deep within, and the new seedlings of our creative projects get their first visions of life… then at the Equinox, with the birthing energies of Spring all around us, we can plant these beautiful seedlings of our heartfelt creative visions, and nurture them to grow, tending them with our loving care in the Spring and Summer seasons ahead.

From the fallow-ness of Winter comes the glorious re-birth of Spring...
Take a moment now to tune deeply
into the womb belly of Mother Earth...
deep into your own belly,
heart and soul...

Become aware of the sacred seeds you have held within since Autumn…

Feel them beginning to stir deep within…
What energies do these seeds hold for your Life?

What new life is being sparked and awakened in your Soul right now that you are ready to tend in preparation
for the rebirth of Spring?

Tune into these seeds and these sacred flames of new life and creation awakening within you?

What are they calling you to create?

What is awakening within you that is longing to come forth and take form in your life and in the New Earth?

This is a time to go deep within to reflect upon these questions and the sacred energies and flames stirring within your Soul...

Journal... Make a vision board...

Create a new altar with images and symbols of your seed intentions and visions...

Anoint your candles with sacred oils and light them to symbolize the returning Light and sparks of Inspiration awakening within.
Re-consecrate your Altars and Sacred Spaces…

This is such a perfect time to do this as on February 4th is the Feng Shui Solar New Year of the Fire Horse and on February 17th the day of the New Moon Solar Eclipse we have the Chinese Lunar New Year.

So, use this time between now and then to do deep cleansing of your inner and outer spaces as we are in the very tip of the tail of the Serpent as the Year of the Snake has its’ last days before the Fire Horse charges in.

This sacred time is also known as Candelmas, the traditional Christian festival, that honors the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of the Christ. In Pre-Christian times it was known as the "Festival of Lights". Candelmas is a time when all the candles in the churches and homes are brought out and blessed.

"This is the feast of the waxing light. What was born at the Solstice begins to manifest. This is the time of individuation: tonight we join together to each light our own sacred flame, and become uniquely ourselves. Tonight is the time of initiation, of new beginnings, when the divine seeds that we have held within our bellies since autumn will begin to stir... to later sprout and grow at the Spring Equinox. We meet to share the light of inspiration, that will grow with the growing year."

February 1st, is also known as Brigantia, Saint Brigit's Day and Brighid’s day when the Ancient Goddess Brigid is honored. She is arguably the most revered Goddess in Ireland and Britain to this day. Because she was so loved and celebrated amongst the peoples of the land, the ancient Mother Goddess was transformed into a Saint when the Christians came along. There are so many legends and stories about Brighid, the deeply loved Goddess and Saint.

Brighid, is also known as Brid, Bride, Brigantia. Her name means "Firey Arrow", "One who exalts herself" and "the Bright One". She is the Goddess of the Triple Flames, the ‘Flame of Inspiration’, as the patroness of poetry and the muse of the bards, the ‘Flame of Healing and the Hearth’, (much like Vesta or Hestia as the Roman-Greek Goddess of the Hearth) as patroness of healing, mid-wifery and fertility, and of the ‘Flame of the Forge’, as patroness of Smith-craft and the marital arts thus She is also seen as a warrioress Goddess.

She was said to have been born at dawn with a crown of fire glowing from her head. Brighid is said to be among the sacred mystical Tuatha De’ Danann, a tribe of magical beings who possessed supernatural powers and reside in the Otherworld and serve as guides to those on Earth.

In the Celtic tradition, it is Brighid that is considered the one that ushers in Spring-time and the new agricultural cycle of the year.
Wherever Brigid walked flowers and shamrocks grew as she radiated great light, inspiration and healing all around her.

She is also connected with the Lady of the Lake, who forged King Arthur's Excalibur sword. In this aspect, she is also known to be the Goddess that watches over all the healing wells and springs, and many springs are named after her. Wells were considered to be very sacred because they arose from oimbelc (literally "in the belly"), or womb of the Mother Earth. In this aspect she is also connected to the Goddess Sullis of the sacred healing waters.

Brighid is also very much connected with the mystical isle of Avalon, also known as the "Isle of Apples", because she was known to have an apple orchard in the 'otherworld', to which the sacred bees would travel to receive their magical nectar.

She is certainly a multi-faceted Goddess and is considered the White Maiden aspect of the Triple Goddess as Maiden, Mother and Crone, and personified as a ‘bride’ or ‘virgin’ at this time of year, as well as a mid-wife, who watches over pregnant women and childbirth.

She is the one that all the bards and poets would call upon to spark their inspiration and awaken them to their creativity once more. Thus, it is so fitting that we call upon Her to help stir our own creative juices and inspiration.

The ancient Celtic word, "Awen", which means the highest frequency of Divine Inspiration, can be chanted at this sacred time especially, and at any time of year, whenever one wishes to summon "Divine Inspiration". Just chant AWEN and feel the vibrations shift!! I now end most of my prayers with Awen and this feels so magical!

It is this knowledge and understanding we celebrate at this time, adding our magic to that of the earth's, and assisting the Wheel's turning once again."

Imbolc is the ancient foundation for our American Groundhog Day, where Brigid's snake was seen peaking its head out of its mound and its behavior was said to determine the length of the remaining Winter, similar to our modern-day ground hog tradition.

This is a very powerful time to cleanse and clear your home and hearth, to ‘Feng Shui’ and re-organize your house and your life with deep sacred intention. It is a time to pay old debts, to clear the slate clean, to consecrate and bless your candles, crystals and altars, and to renew your spiritual vows.

Since it is the Leo Full Moon today it is a perfect time to set your crystals and sacred objects outside under the Full Moon to charge them for the New Solar and Lunar years ahead.

Traditionally, it has been a yearly ritual for Priests and Priestesses to renew their spiritual vows at this sacred festival. So, if your heart and soul are guided, take time to re-write your sacred vows at this most potent and subtle time!

What are you devoting yourself to
on your spiritual path this year?

As you can see this is a very rich time of the year to honor and celebrate, to meditate, do sacred ceremony and ritual.

I always honor this Festival for a good week or so as ‘Lunar Imbolc’ is honored at the New Moon of Aquarius which we will celebrated on February 17th, the day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and powerful Solar New Moon Eclipse.

NEPTUNE TRANSITIONS INTO ARIES UNTIL 2039!
Monday, January 26th at 9:37am (PST) Neptune will leave tropical Pisces and cross the 0 degree threshold of Aries in tropical astrology.

On March 30th through October 22nd, 2025 Neptune first dipped his toes into Aries after being solidly in Pisces
since February 2012.

Now 14 years later, Neptune makes his final entry into Aries where he will stay until March of 2039.

The last time Neptune journeyed through Aries was from 1861 - 1875. This 14 year period held within it the American Civil War, many potent global revolutions, and the transformation of many nations.

During this period of time there was great conflict and change mixed in with major cultural shifts including the rise of new philosophies and spirituality.

For those of us who are sentimental, Neptune, from a Sidereal viewpoint, will remain in the constellation of Pisces for many more years, so we are likely to feel both these energies dancing within us.

But from our Tropical astrology viewpoint, Neptune will be crossing 0 degree point of Aries, known as the Aries Point (AP) of the Tropical Zodiac. This is an extremely powerful point as it is the very beginning of our Tropical Zodiac and the moment of the Vernal or Spring Equinox as the Sun enters Aries and initiates a whole new larger Solar Cycle.

Like the initiation of Spring, there is a renewed and powerful birthing forward as the Earth begins to slowly release the shackles of the Winter and is ready to burst forth with new life. It is truly a time of rebirth and resurrection from the depths and confines of the passing Solar year.

If you tune deeply inward and contemplate this, you might be able to feel Neptune, who has been in the deepest of deep mystical realms for the past 14+ years, in the mists, the foggy realms, in the depths of the ocean... as he is ready to cross this potent Vernal Equinox point and begin a whole new 165 year cycle. YES a whole new 165 year cycle!!!

You can imagine that in moments it may feel like a huge and startling transition.

Since we are all connected in the Great Web of ALL Creation, in the Unified Quantum Field, we too will be walking with Neptune across this threshold.

As Above, So Below!

When I reflect back over the past 14 years of my life since 2012, I can honestly say that I can feel myself beginning to come out of a kind of fog or primordial mist.

I am aware that during this period of time I have been in a much more 'inner world' place in my life and not as much concentrated on the 'outer world' or as goal driven nor focused. I have been in a much more surrendered and amorphous state of being, not as defined, focusing on my spiritual growth and the evolution of my soul, as well as experiencing profound loss and grief.

When I tune even deeper within however, I can feel that so much has actually been going on but on a deep Soul level, not necessarily in plain sight. So much has been transmuting and metamorphosing within the deepest caverns of my Soul.
It has been like being in a chrysalis, in that dark moist inner space, covered in the sticky but nourishing inner waters of the Soul.

What have the past 14 years been like for you?

Using the above metaphor we can feel what this transition might be for us and for Neptune as he crosses this most potent point of the tropical zodiac.

Which brings me to the amazing 'Sabian Symbol' for 0-1 degree of Aries: A Woman rises out of the water, a seal rises and embraces her. This sacred image or metaphor signifies emerging and rising up from the depths of the great cosmic ocean of Oneness, from the undifferentiated waters of life, from the great womb of creation, from the realms of the collective unconscious.
At this very moment of emergence there is immense potential and possibility, a potent entry into a whole new reality with conscious awareness and an experience of Self...

A unique Self or Soul separate from the Great Oneness and merging that was experienced in the deep oceanic waters of creation.

As the Seal rises to embrace her it is as if she is being blessed by her familiar companion of the depths who is initiating her into this new realm of life on Earth.

Perhaps the seal is transmitting a shot of the memory of her time in the great depths of the ocean that she will always carry within her, but now she is ready and prepared for something new and unknown, and so full of potential.

As she emerges and is embraced by her familiar, she is reminded that she now carries the sacred medicine of the Seal within her... the medicine of deep intuition, emotional fluidity, grace and adaptability, playfulness and joy.

She has gained tremendous wisdom and Soul depth. She has experienced great Oneness as She merged with the Unified Oceanic Field of All-That-Is.

She has experienced the realms of Universal Love that is a signature of Neptune in Pisces.

Perhaps she has also tasted the frequencies of Christ-Magdalene- Sophia consciousness within her sacred heart that is so embodied in the deep Piscean waters of Unity Consciousness.

She has learned the ways of the dream-time and how to navigate the liminal spaces in between the worlds.

She has swam in the great waters of the Collective Unconscious and is now ready to deepen her conscious awareness and to individuate as the unique being she is... clearly defined and undeniably authentic.

She now brings all this wisdom with her now married deep within her soul.

Through her time in the depths of the ocean she has also developed a profound connection to the lunar energy of the Divine Feminine and the wisdom of the changing tides,
and she now trusts, with more faith, in the natural seasons and cycles of life.

She has learned to listen to the still deep inner voice of her Soul to guide her now through life.

Like the Seal she has learned to walk between the worlds...
between the worlds of oceanic depths and the shores of the Earth in that transitional liminal border space in between.
She has been prepared and initiated now and is ready to shed her seal skin like the Silkies, those mythical shapeshifting creatures of Irish, Scottish and Norse folklore.

This is so aligned with the ending of the Year of the Snake isn't it?

I also must mention that this Sabian Symbol also points to the the Rise of the Divine Feminine that many of us are experiencing at this most crucial and pivotal moment in time on our Planet.

This time when the nourishing and compassionate energies of the Divine Mother, and the power and wisdom of the Goddess are so needed on our Planet.

There is no mistaking it that She is so, so needed to rise up within each one of us, no matter what gender body we inhabit.

So as Neptune prepares to cross this liminal threshold of 0 Aries, can you feel the rise of the sacred feminine within you?

How do you feel about shedding your seal skin so you can emerge in a whole new human form in your life?

How can you carry the wisdom and depth from the past 14+ years with you into a new chapter of life as you emerge anew?

How do you feel emerging from the great sea of potentiality, from the deep void of the ocean, from the womb of the Mother, from the great sea of the collective unconscious into the dawn of a whole new chapter of your life and life on our Planet??

How can you bring this wisdom of the deep feminine into your life now?

For this is a great turning point for each of us individually and for all of us as a collective humanity.

I am feeling it in the depths of my soul and in the marrow of my bones as I write.

Can you feel it too?

So as Neptune crosses the threshold and begins his journey through Aries for the next 14 years, what are your
sacred intentions?

It will be interesting for you to look at your astrological chart and to see where the 0 degree Aries point is in your birth chart.
What house is it in? Is it aspecting any of your personal planets or angles of your birth chart? This will inform you about where the turning point may be for you in your own personal life.

Begin to notice what is emerging in your conscious awareness right now?

What new seeds of your becoming are stirring deep within?
What new potentials are dawning within you?
What is longing to be expressed and created through you from the deep wisdom of your soul?

How can you invite more playfulness and joy into your life?

Are you ready to begin to take action in your life from all that you have gained and integrated over the past 14 years??

Remember 0 degrees of Aries is the dawning of the New Zodiacal Year, the new Springing forth of creation, a whole new beginning and chapter of life for all of us on Planet Earth..

It is here at this critical moment that the Yin gives way to the Yang.

The dark of night gives way to the light of day.

The dark amorphous undifferentiated gives way to the defined and the formed.

The vast infinite sea of the un-manifested potential gives way to the conscious manifestation of form.

Back to the earlier metaphor:
Let us remember what comes after our deep time in the chrysalis, after our time in the deep, dark dream-time realms...

The emergence of the Butterfly!!

So at this potent zero point of the Zodiac, at the 'Alpha and Omega' point of tremendous initiation, of endings
and powerful new beginnings... let us really experience these primal moments of birth, this portal of powerful transformation we are in right now with Neptune as we prepare to re-birth into
a whole new expression of ourselves in the world and in our lives.

We will be called now to take action, to take new positions of leadership, to be more visible in the world if this be our hearts desire and in divine alignment for our Soul.

We will be called to forge ahead into new territories in our individual lives as well as collectively as a humanity...

Called to bring new creations forth for the benefit of ALL beings at this most crucial time on our Planet.

This New Neptunian Era is bound to bring powerful cultural and generational shifts, along with new expressions of authenticity and individuality, as well as the restructuring of societal structures which Saturn will be assisting with as he crosses the 0 Aries point threshold on February 13th and then joins with Neptune on February 20th.

The old worn-out systems of the patriarchy will be dissolving to make way for the birth of new ideas, new inventions and a new kind of leadership, leadership that will be for the Highest Good of the whole, which Pluto in Aquarius will be assisting with
and making sure it gets done, as will Uranus in Gemini coming soon.

We may feel a huge push forward soon, in alignment with the
Year of the Yang Fire Horse.

There will be no holding back as we pioneer forward with a new conscious awareness of Self.

We will likely feel called into bolder and more courageous and authentic forms of self-expression in our lives and in the world.
This is sure to be a most potent movement forward.

Granted there may be inner and outer conflicts and growing pains in the process.

So remember all the wisdom you are carrying with you from the last 14 years and may it inform all your life choices.

Remember your sacred Seal Skin as you rise from the sea, and the sacred medicine of 'Seal' that is now always with you.

Remember the sacred medicine of Butterfly as you emerge from your chrysalis newly transformed and reborn.

Remember your spiritual practices and your connection with Nature to nourish, ground and sustain you.

May you act now, but with WISDOM informed by Love.

May you feel the Universal Love of Pisces integrated in your Soul so you can truly walk this Earth as an embodiment of LOVE.

May you feel the Christ Magdalene Sophia consciousness blazing within your sacred heart as you move forward into new creations and actions in your life.

May you always remember your connection with the Great Oneness and the inter-connectedness of All-Life that Neptune in Pisces has blessed us with.

May the vibrations of this sacred and powerful threshold, this powerful planetary portal of initiation bring blessings to your soul and to our world in such deep need of healing and love.

CAPRICORN NEW MOON BLESSINGS!
Capricorn New Moon, Sunday, January 18th: 11:52am (PST), 12:52pm (MST), 1:52pm (CST), 2:52pm (EST)

Today, Sunday, January 18th the Sun and Moon join together at 28+ degrees of wise and earthly Capricorn initiating us into
a whole new Lunar Cycle.

A potent Lunar Cycle it will be as both Saturn and Neptune will have their last days in mystical Pisces before moving into assertive and truth telling Aries as they cross the tropical 0 degrees of Aries and begin a huge new cycle.

In the signature chart of this New Moon, Mercury and Mars will be very close to the Sun and Moon in Capricorn, with Venus very close by as well, all in their underworld journeys behind the Sun.
Uranus in Ta**us will trine this and Saturn and Neptune will sextile it.

What does this all mean for our everyday lives?

We will very likely feel ourselves continuing in a deep inner healing, reflective and letting go process through this lunar cycle.
We may likely feel some deep inner re-structuring going on in our bodies, hearts, minds and souls.

We might have the feeling that something big is about to open up in our personal lives and on the world stage, but with the awareness that we still have some more inner healing and preparation to do.

With this being the last Lunar Cycle in the 'Year of the Snake' it will be a time to shed any remnants of the old 'you' and parts
of your life that no longer serve who you are becoming and birthing into.

You may want to look at what still needs to be shed for you to be ready for a whole new rebirth coming as the Fire Horse charges in at the next New Moon, which is also a powerful solar Eclipse on February 17th.

Ask yourself:
What old structures, roles, identities, out-moded patterns are still needing to dismantle to prepare me for the next chapter of life?

What ways of being are part of the 'old' paradigm that I can no longer tolerate within myself and in my relationships?

How can I be even more empowered in myself and in my life?

How can I bring more Love, compassion, forgiveness and acceptance to myself and all my relations??

With the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury and Mars all joining with Pluto in Aquarius in the days to come we will receive a strong shot of inner healing and transformation to support us.

Let 'die' what needs to die and trust the
transformational process.

Remember that whenever there is a death there is also a rebirth into something new just around the corner even if you don't yet know what this is.

Lately, it is hard to turn away from the turmoil going on in our outer world, and at times it is so painful to face it as well.

Things are heating up big time and we all need to be prepared internally so we can stay in balance no matter what is going
on around us in the collective.

In this lunar cycle, we may feel the need to hunker down, to organize and simplify our lives, to put our ducks in a row,
and to be more focused and disciplined.

We may feel called in a bigger way than ever before to be in our truth, in our inner strength, guided to embody our souls gifts and abilities so we can be of service to the greater whole in this time of great need.

With all that is going on, we may also feel the need to connect with the sweet and simple things of life to help calm our nervous systems and to help us feel safe.

We may feel a natural pull to focus on what nurtures us, what helps us feel calm.

We may be inspired to focus on our own creations and creativity that feels positive, uplifting and hopeful.

We may long to find our soul tribe, and desire to be in communion with those we resonate with and love.

It is important now to be deeply connected with our intuition, and to listen to our inner wisdom to guide us in all areas of our lives.
We will need our spiritual practices to help ground and center us so we can stay connected with the Earth, our Higher Self and Divine Source no matter what.

So use this Lunar Cycle to really ground and center yourself and your life.

Set new routines and rituals that truly support you.

Deepen your Self-Care and use the Capricorn New Moon energies to make sure the inner and outer foundations of your life are in place and strong so you can truly be prepared for the charge forward in your life and on our Planet.

We are in for a powerful ride ahead this year.

If fear arises during these shifts remember that all that is transpiring, as awful and ugly as it may appear at times, is all part of a great planetary transformation and spiritual awakening we are in as the 'old' world and paradigm has its' last hay day
and as we begin to anchor and embody the energies of the New Age of Aquarius within us and in our communities.

Remember no matter what, to keep coming back to LOVE for LOVE is the greatest healing elixir in the Universe.

This points to the need for us to gain deeper insight, to trust our intuition and to look for the hidden meaning in things. To really trust the signs, symbols and visions we see around us.
To pay attention to the synchronicities.

This symbol also reminds us of the need to be reflective, internal and quiet so we can receive insight for what is ahead, so we can 'foresee the future' with clarity beyond the confines of what our minds can understand and offer us.

Delving deep into the realms of our soul and spirit, seeing beyond the veils of our 'normal' reality will serve us well and can inform us for the big charge ahead coming at the next New Moon.

Remember that Capricorn is the also realm of the Wise Wo/man within and the domain of the Ancient Grandmothers.

So let us turn to our inner wisdom and to the wisdom of the Ancient Ones, to the deep wisdom of the Earth and Her Sacred cycles as well as to the cycles of the Universe to guide us wisely on our paths as we navigate the massive changes taking place.

At the New Moon, it is a potent time to set new intentions, to create a vision board, to make your sacred elixirs and medicines.
It is a time to plant the 'seeds' of what you want to see grow in your life and in our world. As the crescent Moon grows in
light feel those seed intentions also growing in light.

May we listen to the still voice within to guide us always.
