Let’s talk yoga equipment!
There are so many props and accessories but the one thing you need for yoga (besides yourself) is a yoga mat!
Any mat will do the job. I used a cheap mat from Target (champion brand) for years. But there are perks to the more expensive ones.
1. They last longer
2. They have better grip
3. They don’t slide around as much
4. They absorb sweat, so you don’t need a yoga towel!
There are some accessories that help make up for having a cheaper mat. Like buying a yoga towel helps with sliding.
Brands:
1. I have a lot of friends who have great things to say about ’s mats.
2. Many studios swear by
3. I AM IN LOVE with my Ananday yoga mat. (I’ve borrowed a friend’s lululemon mat before and my mat has a lot better grip, I felt like I slid around a lot more with lululemon’s mat).
Ananday brand:
1. Small female owned business
2. Sustainably sourced products and packing
3. The mat is made of natural materials (cork) and also provide feelings of grounding, perks of practicing on a natural material!
Other yoga gear:
1. Blocks: allow you to modify, customize and switch up poses. Blocks provide support in poses where you don’t have the reach or strength to keep you up/supported. Can also be placed to lift a pose to vary the sensation.
2. Yoga straps: provide reach a reach and grip that we can’t always do with our arms and hands. Allowing us to deepen and intensify some poses.
3. Yoga towel: place the towel over your mat to help absorb sweat and increase your grip. Tip: spray down the towel and your mat to get them to stay together before starting your practice!
