For the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of working with, advising, and investing in a small Pacific Northwest company focused on solving one of healthcare’s most persistent challenges: medication adherence.
We call it SAM — the Smart, Automated Medication dispensing system.
I’m thrilled to share that we’re getting very close to bringing SAM to market.
As our population continues to age, helping patients remain independent in their own homes is becoming increasingly important. One of the most common reasons patients transition from independent living to assisted care isn’t mobility—it’s the ability to safely and reliably manage their medications.
For decades, community pharmacies have helped address this through blister packs and medi-sets. SAM modernizes that approach with precision engineering and connected technology designed to improve adherence and support healthier, more independent living.
With built-in medication alarms, Wi-Fi–enabled notifications, and real-time alerts to caregivers and providers when doses are missed, SAM delivers medication adherence insights that simply haven’t been available before.
Imagine receiving an alert the moment a loved one—or a patient—misses a critical dose. That real-time visibility allows for immediate intervention, whether by a caregiver, clinician, or AI-driven support, helping prevent small misses from becoming major health events.
Beyond convenience, SAM helps manage complex medication regimens for patients, families, and caregivers while producing actionable adherence data that can be used to optimize care, reduce hospital readmissions, and lower overall healthcare costs.
I’m incredibly excited about what SAM will mean for my patients—and for millions of Americans striving to age gracefully at home.
