Denim Day (April 29, 2026) Post Part 2 (Continued)

🗣️Wow… Oh WOW!!!

Did we say, “Wow”?!?! 🙌🏼🤩

That’s the best word that comes to mind when trying to capture and convey what our Denim 👖👕 Day event was!

The communities we serve and the partners we work with- they showed up and showed out in a BIG way!💥

We are truly humbled to have had the amazing support, participation and love that we did!

Why Denim? 👖

The Denim Day story began in Italy in 1992, when an 18-year-old girl was r***d by the 45-year-old driving instructor who was taking her to her very first driving lesson. He took her to an isolated road, pulled her out of the car, removed her jeans and forcefully r***d her.

She reported the r**e, and the perpetrator was arrested and prosecuted. He was then convicted of r**e and sentenced to jail. Years later, he appealed the conviction claiming that the s*x was consensual, leading the Italian Supreme Court to overturn the conviction and release the perpetrator. A statement from the Court argued that because the victim was wearing very tight jeans, she had to help remove them, and by removing the jeans it was not r**e but consensual s*x.

Denim Day may be over but may the conversations never end!!!
Denim Day is just one small piece in our educational, outreach and awareness efforts! It takes a village. It takes you, it takes us, it takes ALL of us!

Let’s always remember to remain vigilant in talking about what s*xual violence is, the misconceptions that surround it, what healthy relationships look and don’t look like!

💥Remember: Nearly every minute someone in the USA is s*xually assaulted! And approximately every 9 minutes that someone is a CHILD‼️

💥Never forget: there is NO excuse for s*xual assault!
‼️Clothing does NOT equal Consent!
‼️Your wardrobe choice is NOT consent!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so very much to all who played a part in our very successful Denim Day event. 🫶🏼🦋
If you are someone you love has experienced s*xual violence; you are NOT alone! It was NOT your fault! We are here for you!

👖History of Denim Day: The Denim Day story began in Italy in 1992, when an 18-year-old girl was r***d by the 45-year-old driving instructor who was taking her to her very first driving lesson. He took her to an isolated road, pulled her out of the car, removed her jeans and forcefully r***d her.

A statement from the Court argued that because the victim was wearing very tight jeans, she had to help remove them, and by removing the jeans it was not r**e but consensual s*x.

Enraged by the verdict, the women in the Italian Parliament launched a protest wearing jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court. This protest was picked up by international media which inspired the California Senate and Assembly to do the same on the steps of the Capitol in Sacramento. Thus, Denim Day was born. The first Denim Day event was held in April 1999 in LA and has continued annually since.

What an awesome day we had participating in the City of Seguin - Government annual Earth 🌎 Day 🌱🌳Festival.

{Earth Day is a reminder of how important it is to protect and preserve our environment for today and for future generations. Every small action adds up to make a big difference!}

The Earth Day Festival was held in conjunction with the Seguin Main Street Program's April Trade Day.

Our amazing volunteer, Rita, enjoyed sharing information about Thriving Hearts Crisis Center.

Rita has been an extraordinary support and embodies the true meaning of a Volunteer. We are extremely grateful to have her on our volunteer team.

In true volunteer fashion.. during Volunteer Appreciation Month… Thank you, Rita for showing up and showing out! You’re a rockstar ✨💫

💜 “Thank you from the bottom of my heart…”

This is why we do what we do.

Every day, survivors in our community reach out in moments of fear, uncertainty, and crisis—and because of support like yours, they are met with compassion, safety, and hope.

But the need is greater than many realize:

➡️ 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
➡️ Domestic violence impacts families in every community—including right here in ours.

Behind every statistic is a story. A person. A moment where everything could have gone a different direction.

Because of you, it doesn’t have to.

Your support helps ensure that when someone reaches out, we are there—every single time.

🦋 Hope

Safety can’t wait.

We want to extend a hearty thank you to the City of Falls City for proclaiming April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Yesterday marked our last Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation for the 2026 year.

Thank you for your support and standing up against s*xual assault!

We appreciate all our Counties and Cities joining our movement and being vigilant in raising awareness about s*xual assault. Education is key and vital in prevention efforts.

Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that mean everything.

Feeling safe.
Being heard.
Being treated with dignity, respect, and care.

This is what survivors experience at Thriving Hearts Crisis Center—because of a community that shows up.

Every day, individuals in our community are facing domestic violence and s*xual assault. And when they reach out, they deserve more than just a response…
They deserve compassion, advocacy, and a path forward.

Safety can’t wait.

Your support ensures we can be there in those critical moments—providing shelter, advocacy, counseling, and hope.
