Today, we proudly celebrate National Women Physicians Day and the incredible women who continue to shape the future of eye care at Eye Associates of South Texas.

In 1821, Elizabeth Blackwell was born. She later became the first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree in 1849—paving the way for generations of women in medicine. Her birthday, February 3, is now recognized as National Women Physicians Day, honoring her legacy and the trailblazers who followed. These women helped increase diversity, reduce pay gaps, and transform a field once dominated by men.

We are honored to recognize and celebrate our own exceptional female providers whose dedication, expertise, and compassion make a difference in the lives of our patients every day:

- Sharron Acosta, MD
- Christina Bui, MD
- Arianna Antunez, OD
- Yuliana Alanis, OD
- Sarah D’Amore, OD

Thank you for your leadership, commitment to excellence, and the care you provide to our communities. Today—and every day—we celebrate you. To learn more about these providers, visit www.eyestx.com.

When you bundle up for winter, you protect your hands with gloves, your ears with a hat, and your feet with warm boots—but don’t forget your eyes!

Just like other sensitive parts of your body, your eyes are vulnerable to cold, dry winter weather. Without the right precautions, winter conditions can lead to dryness, irritation, and even vision problems.

-Dry Eyes: Low humidity outdoors and heated air indoors can strip moisture from your eyes, causing redness, itching, and irritation. Help prevent this by staying hydrated, using a humidifier, and applying artificial tears.

-Excessive Tearing: Cold, windy air can cause your eyes to overproduce tears to protect themselves, sometimes leading to blurry vision. Wearing sunglasses or protective eyewear outdoors can help. If tearing continues indoors, seasonal allergies may be the culprit.

At Eye Associates of South Texas, we’re here to help you keep your eyes comfortable and healthy all winter long. Call (830) 379-3937 to schedule.

Did you know your favorite spread can also support your vision? Peanut butter is a great source of Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect eye cells from damage and supports long-term eye health.

How peanut butter helps your eyes:
- Fights Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): Vitamin E helps slow the progression of AMD, a leading cause of vision loss.
- Helps Prevent Cataracts: Antioxidants reduce oxidative stress that can lead to clouding of the eye’s lens.
- Supports Overall Eye Health: Protects eye tissues from damage caused by free radicals.

For the best eye protection, enjoy peanut butter as part of a balanced diet with other eye-healthy foods like leafy greens, fatty fish, and colorful fruits and vegetables.

Your eyes deserve great care—inside and out. Trust the vision care experts at Eye Associates of South Texas to help keep your eyes healthy at every stage of life.

What Is iDose® TR?

iDose® TR is a tiny, FDA-approved implant placed inside the eye to manage elevated eye pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Unlike traditional treatment that relies on eye drops, iDose® TR continuously releases medication exactly where it’s needed—right inside the eye. This means long-term pressure control, better consistency, and freedom from the stress of daily medication routines.
