One hard part about our jobs is that we have to confront patients with the truth that they have been living with untreated hearing loss.

You’re probably thinking, “I assume if someone is getting their hearing tested, it’s because they KNOW they have hearing loss.”

Unlike other medical conditions, hearing loss happens so slowly over time that it can go undetected for years. Unfortunately, hearing loss (unlike vision loss) is easy to blame on others.

Raise your hand in the comments if you or someone you know has said...

“This restaurant is too noisy. What did you say?”
“Why does she keep mumbling?”
“I can hear you fine. I just can’t understand you!”

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you should contact us here at PA Hearing Tinnitus Center at (570) 245-1526 to schedule an appointment to talk about it.

Even with mild hearing loss, you can still struggle to understand conversations!

Ringing, buzzing, humming, chirping, record playing, clicking, pulsing! Because every patient describes their tinnitus differently, treatment options need to be handled on a case-by-case basis. I tell my patients that their primary objective is to lower the perception of their tinnitus, allowing them to live more comfortable, relaxed, and content lives.

No FDA-approved medications have been shown to reverse the neural hyperactivity at the root of tinnitus (ata.org). Our facility, we have seen significant success in tinnitus patients, educational counseling, hearing aids, and sound therapies.

If you are curious to learn more about tinnitus or to have your hearing checked, please reach out to us at PA Hearing Tinnitus Center or call us at (570) 245-1526 and schedule an appointment! We’d love to connect with you.

Regular exposure to noisy subways, trains, or buses for even just 15 minutes a day can lead to permanent hearing damage over time. Many public transportation options exceed safe noise levels, with averages between 72.5 and 76.5 dB and peak measurements reaching over 114 dB.

Did you know that 15-20% of people experience tinnitus—a ringing, buzzing, or hissing sound only they can hear? It can affect one or both ears and vary in frequency. While there’s no cure for tinnitus yet, hearing aids can offer relief, especially if you also have hearing loss, by amplifying external sounds. Some hearing aids even feature built-in sound therapy programs.

If tinnitus is impacting your daily life, contact PA Hearing & Tinnitus Center to see how hearing aids could help you. Our team is here to support you!

Research has shown a strong connection between hearing loss and cognitive decline. When hearing is impaired, the brain has to work harder to process sounds, which reduces mental resources for memory and problem-solving. Hearing loss can also lead to social isolation, a known risk factor for cognitive decline and dementia. Over time, reduced auditory input can cause parts of the brain responsible for speech comprehension to shrink, further increasing the risk of dementia. However, using hearing aids can help mitigate these risks and protect cognitive health.

Don’t wait—address hearing loss early to safeguard your brain! Contact us at PA Hearing & Tinnitus Center to schedule your next hearing test.
