On Monday we saw Sparky & his mom Marsha Hubler for a medical visit with Dr. Neveu.
Sparky was here for a possible bite wound on his Right hind leg, owner had also mentioned that Sparky was having an eye issue as well. Sparky's right eye had been watery on occasion with a white discharge.
During our medical examinations, our Doctors take a close look at the patients mouth, gums and teeth, look in the ears and check the eyes before moving on to check the patients heart, lungs and joints before they palpate the patient's abdomen.
While checking Sparky's right eye, Dr. Neveu found eyeworms aka Thelaziosis. These worms are the larvae of Fruit flies and need to be flushed from the hosts' eyes. Thelaziosis can infect the eyes of dogs, cats, cows, and potentially humans.

We have also included videos of the removal process of the eye worms.

Videos can be found in the comments of this post.
We spoke with Sparky's mom this morning and she stated that Sparky is doing well although he was sent home with a hard e-collar and is adjusting slowly to it. Both Sparky and his owner had a long night but he will be back to his sweet little self very soon minus his eye worm friends.
