ONE YEAR!

Happy Birthday to Mindful Life's first year as a group.

If you're new here, my name is Destini Napier, and I'm the founder of Mindful Life. I started this practice with just myself in 2023. If you want the honest truth, I started this practice with no idea of how to do it. I didn't know how to run a business, I had no formal training on navigating the world of insurance, I just knew I wanted to own a private practice.

These past few years, but especially this year, has been a constant learning opportunity for me. Every moment I think I have it figured out, the world shows me something new to learn. This past year taught me how to lean into uncertainty and to trust in myself that I would figure it out along the way.

All I have ever wanted to do is help others. Mindful Life allows that to happen, but on an even bigger scale. I am thankful for this team of clinicians that I have behind me. I truly couldn't do it without them and their unwavering dedication to our clients.

I never thought the business could grow in the way that it did this past year. Thank you to each and every person who has supported me in this journey, you mean the world to me.

I cannot wait to see all the wonderful ways Mindful Life will continue to grow this year!

Happy Friday!

We are full of exciting news over here at Mindful Life. The time has come that Jessica, our office administrator, will begin her transition into her new role.

Please help me welcome Jessica into her Clinical Intern Therapist role!

Jessica is a clinical intern at Mindful Life, with a strong passion for supporting individuals through the perinatal period, including pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and the emotional identity shifts that can come with early parenthood. She is especially committed to helping clients feel supported, understood, and less alone during what can often feel like an overwhelming and vulnerable season of life.

Jessica also works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, attachment-related challenges, and life transitions. She approaches therapy with deep respect for each person’s unique story and believes that healing happens within a safe, trusting, and collaborative relationship. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and Person-Centered approach, with integration of mindfulness-based principles. She focuses on helping clients increase emotional awareness, understand patterns in relationships and self-perception, and build greater self-compassion and stability.

Jessica brings a warm, steady, and compassionate presence to the therapy space, creating an environment where clients feel safe to explore both present challenges and deeper emotional experiences. She is passionate about supporting clients in moving toward greater clarity, connection, and confidence in themselves.

Jessica works under the direct supervision of Destini Napier, founder and licensed therapist at MindfuL Life, who brings over a decade of clinical experience specializing in complex trauma, complex PTSD, and attachment wounds. This close supervision ensures that Jessica’s work is deeply supported, collaboratively guided, and informed by advanced clinical expertise and evidence-based practice. Jessica participates in weekly, in-depth supervision that includes case conceptualization, treatment planning, and ongoing training in advanced therapeutic interventions to ensure high-quality care for every client.

Her schedule is already filling up (hard to believe, her schedule has only been live for one day so far), so please contact us to get on her schedule before she is full!

We’re so excited to introduce the newest member of our team at Mindful Life, our clinical intern, Robert Conte! ✨

Bringing an intern into the practice is something we’re incredibly intentional about, because it allows us to expand access to care while also investing in the next generation of highly skilled therapists.

Working with an intern can be a powerful and meaningful experience. Interns are deeply engaged, up-to-date on the latest research and therapeutic approaches, and bring a high level of presence, curiosity, and dedication to their work. They often have more flexibility in scheduling and may offer reduced session rates, making therapy more accessible without compromising quality.

What makes this experience even more valuable is that our intern receives direct supervision and ongoing education from Destini Napier, founder of Mindful Life. This means your care is being thoughtfully supported, collaboratively reviewed, and guided by both fresh perspective and seasoned clinical expertise. You’re not just getting one clinician, you’re benefiting from a team-based approach to your care.

We’re honored to support both our clients and the growth of emerging clinicians in this way. If you’ve been considering starting therapy, this can be a wonderful place to begin.

If I had to choose one therapeutic intervention that my clients hang on to the most, it would be dialectical thinking. So let's take a moment to introduce you to what that means.

Dialectical thinking is the ability to hold two seemingly opposing beliefs/emotions as true at the same time. So what does that sound like?
-- I am healing AND I am still struggling
-- This feels hard AND I am capable of it
-- I feel grief AND I can experience moments of joy
-- I am proud of how far I've come AND I want to achieve more
-- I am excited for this next chapter AND I am scared of it

Why does this matter? Well let me show you what happens with one small change:
-- I am healing BUT I am still struggling
-- I am capable of this BUT it feels hard
-- I am experiencing moments of joy BUT I still feel grief
-- I am proud of how far I've come BUT I want to achieve more
-- I am excited for this next chapter BUT I am scared of it

The small shift from "but" to "and" changes everything. When we use negative language, we literally invalidate the experience/emotion. The word "but" begins to create this internal war that ONE of those experiences must be more true than the other.

Well, let's kick that thinking to the curb, because I haven't come across one total truth in my work so far. When we embrace compassion and give ourself permission to feel the array of emotions that human existence brings, you experience a sense of peace.

Because I am here to tell you that even nature embraces the art of dialectical thinking.

There can be rain and sunshine at the same time.
There can be trees fully bloomed and others still bare.
There can be a wildflower growing through a crack in the sidewalk.

Nature doesn’t force things into “either/or.”
It allows contrast AND coexistence.

And you’re allowed to live that way too.

You can be hurting and healing.
You can feel lost and still be moving forward.
You can hold grief and still notice beauty.

Nothing in nature waits to be only one thing before it’s valid.

You don’t have to either.

Today is such a special day at Mindful Life, because it marks Meagan’s first full-time week with us!

I’m so happy to announce she is now here full-time.

We’ve been waiting for this moment for too long!

Nature never rushes the seasons. Trees don’t force their blooms in the middle of winter. They rest. They hibernate. They conserve energy for what’s next.

If this winter felt heavy, slow, or quiet for you… that might not have been failure. It might have been wintering.

And just like nature, we don’t have to jump straight into full bloom.
We can slowly shift.
We can stretch toward the light.
We can gently come back to life.

This season, let’s take a cue from nature:
✨ Move slowly
✨ Be patient with yourself
✨ Let growth happen a little at a time

You don’t have to bloom all at once.

Staff Spotlight 🔆

This is long overdue, but I just wanted to introduce all of you to our office administrator, Jessica Cole.

Behind every private practice is a person who is making sure that things run smoothly, and for us, she is that person. She is truly the backbone of this practice, and helps keep everything running so that our clinicians can focus on providing quality care to our clients.

My favorite thing that Jessica brings to Mindful Life is her compassion and empathy. She is the first point of contact our clients have. If you've ever made the call to begin therapy, you know how scary that can feel. Having someone warm and supportive on the other end of that phone call can make all of the difference. Jessica goes above and beyond to make sure that our clients can access services, and most people aren't aware of just how much she does to make sure a client becomes connected with one of our therapists.

Not only is she managing the back-end of the practice, but Jessica is also a full-time graduate student who is pursuing her degree in social work. We are so excited to announce that she will be starting her internship with us in May, taking the next step in her journey to become a therapist!

We are incredibly grateful for her passion and dedication to Mindful Life. I can't thank her enough for being my sounding board, answering my endless questions, taking my never-ending phone calls, and always being by my side through every hurdle being a practice owner throws my way (there are many - and I think we've shed some tears together along the way).

If it weren't for her, we wouldn't be able to serve the community in the way that we do. So with all of that being said, please help me in thanking Jessica for all of her hard work. It does not go unnoticed, and we can't wait to see where this year takes you!

Help me in congratulating Kelsey Chapman on her one year at Mindful Life!

Over the past 12 months, you’ve grown in such a meaningful way as a clinician, especially in your work with couples. Your deepening focus on relational connection, emotional safety, and intimacy has been so evident, and your commitment to expanding your skills through Gottman Level 2 training and s*x therapy training speaks volumes about the care and intention you bring to this work.

You show up with curiosity, compassion, and a genuine respect for the complexity of relationships. The way you help couples navigate vulnerability, strengthen emotional bonds, and reconnect with one another is truly special. We’re so grateful for the heart, dedication, and warmth you bring to our team, and for the impact you’re making in the lives of the couples you serve.

Cheers to one year and to many more ahead, we’re lucky to have you, and Mindful Life wouldn’t be complete without you!

And that’s a wrap on 2025 ✨

Last year, I was so proud to know that I was able to see about 30 clients a week when it was my solo practice. I was honored to help 30 people every week on their journey towards healing.

This year, I feel the most honored to say that Mindful Life now services about 150 clients a week. From 30 to 150, let that sink in!

The vision for this office was to help the community heal. But I’m only one person. I can play Tetris like no other with my schedule, and see as many people as humanly possible, but I still couldn’t do more than what I was doing. So the dream was built. Imagine what a team of therapists could do?! This is it. 30 to 150. I am beyond grateful for this team, for this community that supports us, but most importantly our clients who trust us. We wouldn’t be here without you!

2025 was a HUGE year for me. I’ll never forget it. I already know 2026 is going to bring more growth.

I’ll be soaking this all up. This was a decade long dream in the making.

For now, stay tuned. Mindful Life isn’t done growing, we will just have to see what’s next!
