When we are experiencing grief, it can be easy to feel like God has abandoned us. It may feel like He doesn't notice us or has forgotten about us.

On World Sparrow Day, we encourage you to remember that the Bible says God sees each sparrow, and we are even more valuable to Him!

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated each year by wearing festive green attire adorned with shamrocks - but do you know the history behind this holiday? This day is in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. He lived during the 5th century and is known for bringing Christianity to Ireland.

Tradition holds that St. Patrick used the shamrock to help explain the Holy Trinity, explaining why the shamrock is a symbol of this special day.

Over time, this religious feast day in Ireland grew into a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and heritage.

Adults grieve. So do children. As an adult or child, experiencing grief means to "feel," not just to "understand." Anyone old enough to love is old enough to grieve. Even before children are able to talk, they grieve when someone loved dies. And these feelings about death become a part of their lives forever.

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who serve families with compassion, strength, and grace every single day at Parrish & Underwood Funeral Homes.

Behind the scenes and in moments when families need support the most, these women show up with kindness, professionalism, and a heart for helping others through some of life’s most difficult times. Their dedication to our community does not go unnoticed.

On International Women’s Day, we want to say thank you for the care you provide, the comfort you bring, and the impact you make in the lives of so many families.

We are proud to have such strong, compassionate women as part of our team. 💜

Family Owned since 1962

Our Founder, Robert Elton Parrish, was born in Johnston County March 13, 1928. After graduating high school he served in the US Marine Corps. In 1951 He graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science , and in 1962 became owner and President of Parrish Funeral Home.

Our caring staff of funeral professionals is dedicated to helping families create a meaningful funeral. We know every family is unique, which is why we spend time learning about your loved one, so that a visitation and celebration of life will reflect your faith, your culture, your family, and your traditions.

We are proud to be family owned, and also proud to own and operate Underwood Funeral Home, located 522 South Brightleaf Boulevard, Smithfield. It is there we own and operate our own crematory. Your loved one never leaves our care.
