Welcome Back to Myth busting Monday!

MYTH: I'm HIV-positive. My life is over.

Fact: In the early years, when no treatment was available, the death rate from AIDS was extremely high. But today's drugs allow people who have HIV or even AIDS to live much longer, normal, and productive lives. If you start drug treatment right away and take it correctly, it’s possible you won’t ever develop AIDS. And you may live as long as you would have without the virus.

HIV could make you more likely to get diseases like cancer, heart disease, and kidney disease. So take your HIV medicine as prescribed and protect yourself with a healthy lifestyle. And tell your doctor about any other health problems you have. HIV drugs can interfere with other medications and make some conditions harder to control.

Join us every Monday as we debunk myths and share facts about HIV and AIDS. Knowledge is power, and together we can create a more informed community!

In 2008, the National Association of People with AIDS launched National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day to recognize the disproportionate impact of the epidemic on gay men.

The observance offers an opportunity to raise awareness about stopping HIV stigma and encouraging HIV testing, prevention, and treatment for HIV among gay and bisexual men, who often face multiple challenges—such as racism, homophobia, discrimination, and stigma—which may increase the risk of HIV.

It’s Friday!

We want to take a moment to highlight our desire to push forward HIV Education.

It is our goal to empower individuals to make informed decisions. Comprehensive education goes beyond just basic facts and addresses how to put knowledge into practical use. This includes:
* Building skills for safe sexual practices.
* Encouraging consistent condom use.
* Promoting regular HIV testing.
* Helping individuals navigate the healthcare system.

At Selma AIR, we aim to keep you informed so that you know how to protect yourself while enjoying whatever decisions you have made.
