Sunday Funday

Today I returned to a couple pages I did months ago.

First one was an experiment with transparent papers. Today I added mark making and random doodles.

Second page was covered in gel plate paper hexagons. Today I added Spirit Dolls with transparent gowns.

Third page was new today. I wanted to play with the idea of Spirit Guides or Ancestors watching over me. I'm calling this one "The Aunties"

I recently started to teach myself tatting. It's very relaxing and kind of feels like magic!

In my latest YouTube video, I share tips I've learned through the many mistakes I've made. I also share how to make these sweet little butterflies.

If you're not familiar with Bisa Butler I highly recommend you check her out. Her work elevates textile art to a whole other level.

This exhibition brings together more than 20 of Butler’s vibrant quilted portraits, which both pay tribute to the role of quilts as bearers of cultural memory and celebrate historical narratives of Black life.

Sunday Funday

It's been a minute since I've taken the time to just fart around and play. It's been an even longer minute since I got my watercolors out.

Followed an example in a book for the first one (on right). Then I realized that I needed a more spring appropriate color palette for the one on the left.

I was just getting ready for bed and heard the sound of rain on the metal roof. I don't know why, but I felt that I just had to go out and let it wash over me and put my bare feet on the ground.

When the Goddess speaks, I listen.

Can't wait for tomorrow night!

For Winter Solstice, I did a ritual to set goals, dreams, and intentions for the new year. One of my "reach" goals was to have a show at a gallery and/or to submit a piece for a juried show. It wasn't until last year that I began to refer to myself as an artist. I was creative, artistic, and crafty, but I wasn't a "real" artist.

Within a week, my friend and mentor, Anne Strand, connected me with and it was on the books!

As I set out my work today, I felt my mother's spirit next to me. She was always my biggest fan and support. I know that I inherited my artistic skills from her. She never would have called herself an artist either, so I'm going to claim it for both of us. Fabric and thread are just as valid as artistic mediums as paint on canvas.
