Is your respirator NIOSH tested and approved? The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has issued a warning noting the dangers about counterfeit or "misrepresented" respirators that might not provide adequate protection. This includes everything from tactical respirators to N95 masks.

Ensure the respirators used by your department and family are certified and safe! See more on our blog post at https://www.con10gency.com/single-post/beware-of-imitators-niosh-cautions-about-misrepresented-respirators.

You are at the movies. The lights are down, the movie has started.
Something happens. This is not the time to guess.

Step one: Exit if you can. Know your doors before you need them.
Step two: If you cannot exit, go to SIM.
• Safety: Protect yourself and the people with you.
• Immediate Action Plan: Decide right now. Move, hide, or act.
• Medical: Be ready to treat the injured.

Denial is not an option. You cannot say “it’s nothing” and hope it passes.
Preparedness means training your brain to follow the order every time: Exit if you can. If not, SIM.

Everyone talks about the best seat for the view. But the best seat is also about awareness.
When the lights go down, you should still know where the exits are. You want a seat that lets you see the main doors and gives you options if something feels off.
Comfort is nice. Awareness is better.

👉 Pro Tip: If the movie has started and someone comes in late, take two seconds to check. Quick glance, quick read. Most times it is nothing, but now you know.

What would you do in an active threat situation?

Most people go into denial. They tell themselves, “It’s nothing.” That is the worst response you can have. Denial costs time, and in these moments, time saves lives.

You only have three options: Run, Hide, or Fight.
• Run if you can. Distance is your best protection.
• Hide if you cannot run. Think SIM: Situation awareness, Immediate action plan, Medical readiness. Know where you are, what to do, and how to help if someone is hurt.
• Fight only if there is no other choice. And if you fight, fight as if your life depends on it—because it does.

Preparedness means knowing these steps so well that you don’t freeze. Run. Hide. Fight. Remember them. Train them. Make them automatic.

As you already know, September is Preparedness Month. That is the best reason to double down on baby-proofing at home.

Here is my full safety checklist:
• Anchor furniture so it cannot tip if pulled
• Cover every outlet with secure plug covers
• Lock up chemicals and cleaning supplies
• Lock drawers with sharp tools inside
• Secure stairs with gates
• Pad sharp corners on tables and furniture
• Move sofas away from windows
• Keep batteries out of reach and locked away
• Check floors for small items that could be swallowed
• Keep window cords tied up and out of reach

These small steps protect kids in the biggest ways. Preparedness is not about fear. It is about peace of mind for your family.

Follow for more safety tips and everyday preparedness.

I want to share something personal. For a long time I pushed myself too hard. I skipped meals, ignored sleep, carried stress like a badge of honor. My body tried to warn me with small signs. Headaches. Fatigue. Feeling run down. But I brushed it off.

Then it caught up with me. And the health scare that followed changed everything.

Don’t be like me. Listen when your body speaks.

Take care of yourself. Eat well. Move daily. Rest when you need to. Protect your mental health. The smallest choices add up, and they matter more than you realize.

It feels vulnerable to share this, but if my story stops one person from ignoring their own health, then it is worth it. Please take care of you. Your body, your mind, and your family need you at your best.

Books, backpacks, new routines. But safety should always come first.

Take time to talk with your kids about how they get to and from school, who they can turn to if they feel unsafe, and what to do in an emergency. These conversations may feel simple, but they make a huge difference.

Prepared kids are confident kids. And confident kids stay safer.

In honor of National Preparedness Month I picked the best movies you should watch as homework. 🎬
It’s fun, it’s entertaining and you’ll walk away feeling more prepared than before.
Here are the top 5:

1. The Day After Tomorrow – Extreme weather preparedness

2. United 93 – Situational awareness

3. Contagion – Public health preparedness

4. Cast Away – Survival skills

5. Twister – Storm safety

Which one is your favorite?

When was the last time you walked through your own home with safety in mind?

I do this often. I check my smoke alarms, my first aid supplies, my fire extinguisher, and my trauma gear. I make sure nothing is expired, missing, or out of reach.

It does not take hours. It takes minutes. And every time I do it, I know my family is safer.

Preparedness does not start with gear. It starts with awareness. Follow me as I show you how I inspect my house step by step.

September is not only National Preparedness Month. It is also Su***de Prevention Month.

It is okay to feel helpless sometimes. Especially after awful things happen in the world. Those moments can knock you down. They can lead into depression or fear.

But tomorrow needs you. Tomorrow needs you so badly. You matter more than you know. If ever it feels like too much, please call the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You are not alone.

Today we remember September 11.
Every single victim had a name, a face, and a story.
Each one mattered. Each one is remembered.

We honor their memory by saying their names and by never forgetting the lives taken.
This day is about loss, courage, and the people who will always be in our hearts.

Most people have never heard his name.
But Rick Rescorla saved thousands of lives on 9/11.

Born in England in 1939, he joined the British Army, then moved to the U.S. and became a decorated Vietnam veteran. Known as the soldier who sang to calm his men under fire.

After the war, he earned degrees in law and criminal justice. He later became Head of Security at Morgan Stanley in the World Trade Center. After the 1993 bombing, he pushed nonstop evacuation drills. He warned that terrorists would strike again.

On September 11, 2001, his planning saved nearly 2,700 employees. He ignored orders to stay put, grabbed his bullhorn, and led people down the stairs. He sang to keep them calm.

When almost everyone was out, Rick went back in to bring more to safety. He never came out.

His courage made him one of the true heroes of 9/11.

And here’s the question for us today:
Are you prepared in a time of crisis?
The best way to honor sacrifices like Rick’s is to take preparedness seriously in our own lives. It feels uncomfortable, but it’s the way we protect the people we love.
