Does your loved one suffer from SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder?
Here are gentle ways to support an older loved one through fall and winter:
• Chase the light: Open blinds, sit by sunny windows, and bundle up for short outdoor walks when you can.
• Try light therapy: A 10–20 min morning session with a light box may help—ask their doctor if it’s a good fit.
• Keep moving (safely): Chair stretches, hallway laps, or simple balance exercises lift mood and energy.
• Stay social: Schedule regular calls, visits, game time, or music hours—connection makes a big difference.
• Protect sleep: Steady bed/wake times, soft evening lighting, and a calming routine (tea, reading, quiet music).
• Nourish well: Hydration, protein, colorful veggies/fruit; discuss vitamin D with their provider if needed.
• Make space for calm: Deep breaths, prayer, or guided relaxation to ease stress
If you notice lasting sadness, changes in sleep/appetite, or withdrawal, reach out to a healthcare professional.
At Senatobia Healthcare & Rehab, we’re here to help residents and families brighten the season—mind, body, and spirit. 💙
