Like so many fleeing the war in Ukraine, this family brought their pets. They had to carry their elderly German Shepard when she was too exhausted . The power of love .

Bailie Grace Cirencione passed away January 25, 2022 in the loving arms of her mother after a courageous battle with Hemangiosarcoma.
Bailie was born on May 6th, 2011 and came to her forever home in Geneva on July 8th. Bailie loved her family, snuggling, car rides, running in her yard, traveling and the NY Yankees. Her favorite activity was lake “walks” in her stroller. Bailie thoroughly enjoyed as much popcorn as her family would give her. Now and then, she would “find” food she was not supposed to have. She landed herself in the Animal Hospital more than once after she was successful in eating some of her favorite treats, namely chocolate. Bailie especially loved Christmas and unwrapping her gifts from Santa.

Bailie is survived by her loving parents, David and Sue, her sisters Ashley, Chelsie and Madison and her special friend Koala.

On Memorial Day, we remember those soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and for us, the people of the United States of America. There is also the less obvious soldier, one who risks and gives their life for our freedom: the canine. The role of the military dog has advanced and become much more sophisticated and trained for. "Sentry dogs" work on short leash and give warning by growling or barking. "Scout/Patrol dogs" are trained to work in silence in the detection of snipers, ambushes, and other enemy forces. "Explosives dogs" were most recently introduced in the War on Terrorism. Their superior sense of smell detects packaged explosives hidden on a person, in a vehicle, or roadside location. Please remember 4-pawed heroes and their handlers.

Our hearts were saddened today as we said goodbye to Miss Martha. She was known best by children in the community through the Seneca Falls Library "Reading with Miss Martha" program. Since 2011, this gentle canine has nurtured reading skills, taught kindness to animals, and provided reassuring love to young children. Thank you to her owner Karen for sharing Miss Martha and allowing her to touch so many lives. 💕🌈 💕
