Today is Fall Prevention Awareness Day. Falls are a leading cause of injury among seniors. Falls can greatly affect a senior's life, leading to physical and emotional trauma, loss of independence, and even death. The good news is that there are many things that seniors can do to reduce their risk of falling. Some of the most important steps include:

- Staying active: Regular exercise helps to improve balance, coordination, and strength. Choose activities that are appropriate for your fitness level and overall health.

- Making your home safe: Remove tripping hazards, install grab bars in the bathroom, and improve lighting throughout the house.

- Talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and medications: Certain medical conditions, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, and Parkinson's disease, can increase the risk of falls. Make sure you are taking your medications correctly and know about possible side effects.

- Getting regular vision and hearing checks: Poor vision and hearing can increase the risk of falls.
