Amazing docent and amazing company!

We're celebrating Gratitude Month with some stories of community generosity.

If you visit Feiro on a Friday afternoon, you might be lucky enough to be greeted by volunteer Joseph Winters. Joseph grew up in Port Angeles and became acquainted with Feiro at an early age through school field trips and education programs. With his love of learning and keen memory, it's no surprise that his job coach thought volunteering at Feiro would make a perfect fit. A chance to share his fascination and love for turtles with the public was all it took for Joseph to join as a volunteer naturalist. Since 2018 Joseph has added more favorite animals to his list, including the Striped Sun Star. He has increased his volunteer duties to include feeding the anemones and filter feeders, and closing up the exhibits at the end of the day. A recent visitor had this to say "What a cool little center! Staff was so knowledgeable. Joseph guided us through our visit and really knew his stuff. Absolutely would recommend!"

We are very grateful to Joseph for choosing to spend time teaching others about the wonders of undersea (and land-based) animal life, and to the dedicated staff at Pierce, Jones & Associates, whose vision is to assist those we work with to fulfill their dream of having a self-directed life in a community that fosters equity and inclusion.

Job Summary

A Job Coach works closely with individuals who experience a disability to ensure services reflects their wishes, needs, abilities and employment goals. The Job Coach will work directly with clients and their employers at the job site. The Job Coach will also work with individuals to learn and maintain all needed ancillary skills to ensure successful ongoing employment.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provide on-the-job training and coaching to supported employees.-Provide training to support the participant and employer through job, task, or schedule changes.-Maintain up-to-date contact notes, case records and other assigned paperwork.-Develop ongoing positive relationships with key co-workers in participants place of employment.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge, ability and desire to work respectfully with individuals with disabilities.-Ability to relate to a diverse set of situations and individuals-Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing

Self-directed and able to work independently
