What is the difference between HDL and LDL cholesterol?

Your HDL is considered your "good cholesterol" because it absorbs cholesterol and carries it to the liver to be expelled from your body. LDL is considered your "bad" cholesterol because it takes cholesterol to your arteries, where it may buildup and increase your risk of blood clots. If you don't know your cholesterol numbers, ask your doctor at your next check-up. The sooner you know your numbers, the sooner you can take preventive steps to manage them.
