✰✰✰✰✰ I came to Antara's practice desperately looking for relief. I suffer from a slew of medical conditions; autoimmune PBC which caused me to have cholestasis and cirrhosis (at only 30), gastritis, hiatal hernia, constipation, and scar tissue from partial removal of an o***y due to a cysts Antara is one of the kindest most empathetic practitioners I've ever worked with. She just has an innate healing ability. She called me immediately after filling out her online forms and got me scheduled ASAP

I work with her once a week for visceral manipulation. This treatment has improved my digestion/bile flow. I now have regular bowel movements and noticed that my bile flow is improving. Antara also uses: grounding, lymphatic drainage, and craniosacral therapy. Going to my appointments with Antara is the highlight of my week. I always leave with a deep sense of inner peace and relaxation. She has helped me immensely physically and emotionally. Antara is blessed with a true gift to help others heal. I highly recommend her.

Patients with recurrent pain are often treated for their symptoms and rarely for their root cause. Symptoms like pain or stiffness get better with treatment but the gain may not last. For example, I evaluated a runner who complained of chronic tightness in his hips which prevented him from running longer distances. The stiffness in his hips and low back pain also prevented him from lifting weight during deep overhead squats. He had been to specialists from different disciplines ranging from massage to physical therapy to chiropractor, and he felt better with every treatment but the symptoms returned soon after.

I approached his evaluation , and decided treatment plan using Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). SFMA is a movement based diagnostic system for those who are experiencing pain. It uses a series of full-body movements, such as not being able to touch the opposite shoulder blade from behind or unable to touch the toes while bending down, to identify possible movement dysfunctions which could be the cause of the underlying pain.

SFMA can help evaluate the source of the pain, identify the dysfunctional movements and assist in creating a treatment plan to restore pain-free movement and function. By building an intervention plan related to an individual’s overall mechanical function rather than medical diagnosis, the SFMA not only impacts the patient’s symptoms, but also has long lasting positive outcomes for that individual’s level of function.

Shoulder pain / stiffness can linger for a while even after costisone injections, physical therapy or surgery. I saw a patient after a Rotator cuff repair surgery. He had been to physical therapy before but was unable to achieve full functional range of motion. Surgeon was planning to redoing the surgery. When I saw him his shoulder blade (scapular) muscles were not working properly to stabilize the shoulder blade. And this was not giving enough room for shoulder joint to move to achieve full range without impinching. By working on the scapular stabilizer muscles we could not only prevent the redoing of surgery but could achieve full range of motion.

In this post I am showing different ways to use GRASTON TECHNIQUE. I have used the tools to evaluate the restriction in the first video and then three other videos to show different ways of treating the scapular stabilizers; without movement, with movement, and in weight bearing position, to gain the maximum benefit.

This treatment not only works for shoulder but can be beneficial with lot of other issues like neck pain, middle back pain, headaches, low back pain

Many years back, I received a panicked phone call at work from my family that my husband had locked up his upper body after one of his violent sneezes. He was working at his computer, and he was frozen with his shoulders elevated up against his ears, hands high in a typing position, fingers that looked like they were ready to claw someone. He was in much pain and they were ready to take him to the ER. I came home with the GT instruments and within the first 30 mins he could move his neck 50%, and in our second session GT restored his full movement.

Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle manual therapy, for precise and skillful handling of the organs to address functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction.

After a proper evaluation and localizing the restriction as well as the altered motion in the visceral system, a VM trained therapist uses high precision, minimal force techniques to release restrictions around organs, nerves, blood vessels, fascia, joints and the brain.

Visceral Manipulation is often cited as a missing link in the treatment of Recurring Musculoskeletal Pain, Postural Distortion, and Biomechanical dysfunction. This manipulative gentle force is enough to stimulate the body's own self correction system, and not force the correction on the body.

In Trigger point Dry Needling (TrPDN), inserting a thin needle in the trigger point creates a LOCAL TWITCH RESPONSE (LTR) in the muscle. Different types of sensations can be felt. It could be aching, spasming (jumping of muscles as muscle fibers are releasing), referred pain or just soreness. Soreness can last for a day or two, or sometimes just a few hours. The LTR alters the chemical environment around the trigger point, which eliminates pain (Local as well as Referral) and improves the function of the muscle. This helps in improving range of motion as well as strength and stability which in turn improves functional outcome. Read more in my blog.

In FSN (Fu’s subcutaneous needling) the therapeutic effect is best achieved by a fan-like swiping motion which covers the most possible surface area. FSN creates effects within superficial fascia where type 1 collagen fibers are most abundant. Swaying motion of the needle can create Piezoelectric effect (ability to generate an electrical charge in response to applied mechanical stress) . This can transmit the effect to distant muscles, creating an immediate change in tissue plasticity.

The Reperfusion approach is the active engagement of the muscle being needled during manipulation of the FSN needle. This improves circulation and overall effectiveness of the treatment by pumping blood through the previously compromised areas.

Dry Needling is a skilled treatment that uses solid needles for the treatment of pain and dysfunction. It is called dry because there is no solution or medication involved .

Thin needle is inserted deep (TrpDN ) or superficially ( Fu subcutaneous needling) through the skin to relieve the trigger point. And by relieving trigger point it helps to release tight contracted band and scar tissue, improves the optimal function of the muscle, and reduces compression of the nerve.

Outcome includes decrease pain, and improved range of motion , strength as well as stability. Learn more about different approaches of dry needling in my new Blog Post.

Beautiful illustration of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) , the fluid that surrounds our brain and spinal cord (CNS- Central Nervous System) . Uninterrupted rhythmic flow of CSF is necessary for optimal functioning of CNS and our wellbeing. When there is stagnation in the CSF flow it can create various issues like brain fog , headaches, migraine, TMJ, backpain.... etc. Find a trained Craniosacral Therapist to help you.
