When it comes to good old-fashioned sweat sessions, you can sweat by exercising or by using a sauna.

Some saunas allow you to incorporate essential oils for additional relaxation and detoxing.

If you are in the market for a sauna (or can't use one at your local spa or gym), look for an infrared sauna that carries even more health benefits.

Can’t find (or purchase a sauna), go for a brisk walk, lift some weights, do a moderate HIIT workout, anything that gets your blood pumping and the sweat rolling.

Unless you have a very active job (teacher, nurse, postman, fitness instructor, etc) you probably aren’t getting as much movement each day. A desk job can cause stress on your joints, muscles can atrophy over time, your flexibility becomes more limited…its just not a good combination.

Movement adds so much to our lives:

⚡ Increases your energy
⚡ Improves your mood
⚡ Allows you to think clearer
⚡ Supports better mental health

Those are just the side benefits to getting 30 minutes of activity each day.

If you aren’t very active, don’t just jump into a huge workout routine if it’s been a while. Just aim for 15 minutes of movement 2X a day. Add a short walk after your meals or when you need a break from your computer. The steps will add up, your heart will be healthier, and your mood will improve.

Essential oils are a great addition to your bedtime routine. Oils can change your physical state (awake vs asleep). Finding the right essential oils for you is just as easy as testing different diffuser blends and see how you feel in the morning.

Try a diffuser blend, and then in the morning write what the blend was and how your sleep quality was. If you wear a Fitbit or a watch that monitors your sleep, add that date to your notes.

Exercise can help you to fall asleep faster and improve your sleep quality. In particular, exercise increases your overall sleep quality and lets you sleep longer. By exercising in the early morning or afternoon your body is ready for downtime at night.

Try to avoid exercising within two hours before you go to bed as strenuous activity at this time can stop you from falling asleep as exercise gives you a burst of energy to keep going for a few hours after.

Want those littles to fall asleep faster? Take them to the park to run around for at least 30 minutes in the afternoon.

If warm milk is your jam, go for it. It’s not mine. However there are foods you can incorporate at dinner or evening snacks, so when it comes to bedtime you can fall asleep and stay asleep.

✔️Bananas
✔️Almonds
✔️Chickpeas
✔️Fish
✔️Spinach
✔️Milk
✔️Whole grain cereal
✔️Oatcakes

Each of these boost your serotonin levels (the precursor to melatonin) which help you fall asleep faster. So, slice up half a banana over your cereal with milk and skip the melatonin gummy and see how you feel in the morning. 😉

📺 Our cell phones, laptops, and TVs all emit blue light. Blue light can affect your body’s natural circadian rhythm if exposed within 2 hours of going to sleep.

Blue light suppresses the production of melatonin, our naturally occurring sleep hormone, which tells your body it’s tired and needs to sleep. The sun emits blue light, which is why it's easy to wake up when the sun is shining in the window.

The easiest ways to prevent blue light from wreaking havoc on your sleep? Ditch the screens 2-3 hours before going to bed. Swap your screen habit for a good old-fashioned book. Try using blue blocker glasses when using screens or turn on your blue light blocker on your phone while scrolling.

The circadian rhythm, also known as your internal body clock, is responsible for making you feel alert and sleepy throughout the day. Ideally, you should feel most alert early in the morning and sleepy as it becomes darker and later in the day.

The circadian rhythm is the reason why teenagers find it difficult to go to bed and wake up early, because their melatonin is released later than adults and children, so they’re awake later. Jet lag and shift work also interfere with the natural body clock as well as long and irregular hours.
Get ready to hack your circadian rhythm for sleep:

✅ Go to bed and get up at the same time every day
✅ When you wake up, take a morning walk and get some sunlight on your face

If the temp in your bedroom is too warm, it can throw off how you sleep or cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. Aim for 65 degrees F (18C) in your bedroom.

If you are thinking of probiotic foods you are right!

Step 1: Make sure you are taking a good quality probiotic (like PB Assist or PB Assist Jr. every day)

No, I’m not going to get all preachy like the old fiber commercials from the 80s.

Ok…maybe a little bit.

The standard American diet is devoid of fiber–it's no wonder why it's also known as SAD. 🤣 The amount of processed foods we eat has lead to low bacterial diversity in our gut flora. Fiber feeds our gut flora. If you are eating more processed foods than whole foods (like veggies and fruit at each meal), chances are you need some extra fiber.

We only need 25 grams of fiber a day. Focus on eating dark leafy greens, fruits, complex carbs, and healthy fats. If you need a little extra support, try our doTERRA Fiber (which has both soluble and insoluble fiber).

, Keto, Whole30– there are a slew of elimination diets out there. When it comes to biohacking though, it isn’t a specific “diet” per say, it is figuring out what works for your body specifically. 💪

Some of the biggest catalous of inflammation in your body can be linked to wheat, dairy, and sugar so these are good areas to reflect on HOW you feel after you are consuming these things.

A good place to start can be to eliminate one area at a time to see how your body feels. Start slowly, don’t eliminate everything at once. To get started, eliminate one thing (wheat for example) from your diet for 3 weeks. Record how your body feels each day as you are not consuming wheat. Then introduce a day where you eat this a few times that day and record how your body feels after each meal, the next day, and two days after eating.

👉 Do your joints hurt less?
👉 Are you less bloated?
👉 Are you experiencing less heartburn?

This is actually allowing you to tune into being present with your body and having a ton of awareness around what foods make your body feel good, and what foods make you feel “not so great!”

Intermittent Fasting (IF) is not just trendy, it’s backed by science. 💥

Just remember our safety tips! Listen to your body and check in with your physician.

What exactly is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is when somebody goes between 12 to 16 hours without food. This may sound hard, but if you stop eating at 8 PM at night and don’t eat until after 8 AM, you’re already fasting. (YAY YOU!)

Why does I.F. work so well?

Naturally, you are not consuming during your fasting period, but when you do break your fast (get it…BREAKfast) you want to by consuming healthy protein, fats, and complex carbohydrates. Naturally, this stops the unconscious snacking late at night so you have a lower amount of sugar spikes and crashes. I.F. is a great biohack because it improves your body’s insulin sensitivity (helping us not fall into or reverse insulin resistance).

While you are fasting you can have black tea, black coffee, and water. I still love to add my favorite citrus oils to my water.

Energy in your body comes from????

The mitochondria. 🥳 AKA the powerhouse of the cell. We have trillions of cells in our bodies, so we have trillions of mitochondria that keep us up and running.

The number 1 thing we can do to support our body (and increase our energy) is to reduce temporary inflammation.

This happens by eating quality foods, supplementation, getting movement in each day, proper sleep, and mindset. I know it sounds like a broken record, but our bodies were made to function a certain way for optimal health.

This month, we’re breaking down biohacking your body so you can become the best version of you. Live longer, have more energy, and be happier.

Before we dive in, a couple of biohacking safety tips:

➕ Listen to your body. Seriously, this is a huge one. Biohacking isn’t about incorporating several things at once. It’s about small, consistent practices that change your body in the long run. So, if something feels off, don’t push it.

➕ Always consult with a practitioner specializing in integrative health and nutrition practices, who will support (and observe) you on your journey.
