"These three sentences can help when you are angry and do not want to be carried away by your anger. The first line is, 'Breathing in, I know I’m suffering.' We often don’t realize when we are suffering, and so we become a victim of our suffering. By saying, 'Breathing in, I know I’m suffering,' there is suffering but there is also mindfulness of suffering. That makes a big difference.

The second line is, 'I know that you are suffering too.' Usually we think that we are the only one who is suffering, that we are the victim of the unkindness or cruelty of the other person. We forget that the other person is also suffering, and that’s why they said or did such things.

The third line is, 'I need your help.' We need help because we are suffering. We want to understand what has happened. The other person also needs our help, not punishment. This simple phrase can remind us that we can offer to be a refuge for each other rather than making things worse. We can de-escalate tension and conflict straight away by asking the other person for help."

Sending some your way today and every day.

If you are unhappy, uninspired, or unmotivated… start within.

When life feels heavy, don’t rush to change the world—
begin with what you can gently care for.

If you are unhappy, start with the body.
Nourish it with good food.
Rest it without guilt.
Move it with intention.
In Buddhism, the body is not separate from the mind—
a restless body often carries a restless mind.

If you are uninspired, start with the mind.
Feed it new ideas.
Expose it to different perspectives.
Open it to curiosity instead of judgment.
A closed mind creates a closed life.

If you are unmotivated, start with the heart.
Reconnect with your purpose.
Ask yourself: Why does this matter to me?
And more importantly—
Who can I serve through this?
Because meaning fuels motivation.

The Buddha taught that suffering begins within—
and so does healing.

You don’t need a new life overnight.
You need small, mindful shifts
in your body, your thoughts, and your intentions.

Start there.
Everything else will follow.

A Willingness to Keep Showing Up

I step into this new year
gently, without resolutions,
with just a simple willingness,
to keep going,
to keep moving forward.

Not the bright, declarative kind of decision
that arrives with banners and promises,
but the quieter kind,
the one that asks for nothing grand.

No transformation.
Just an honest effort
to place one foot in front of the other,
without needing it to be a victory march.

To keep going isn’t strength.
It’s letting the days arrive as they are,
some heavy,
some hollow,
some unexpectedly kind.

It’s allowing grief, fatigue, memory, and love
to share the same room,
without insisting that any of them leave.

There is no list.
No reinvention.
No deadline for becoming someone new.
There is only the steady choice
to remain present,
to trust that willingness itself
is an act of grace.

So this year begins
not with resolve, but with intention:
the intention to stay present,
the intention to try again tomorrow,
the intention to simply keep showing up.
