Most of you are probably like what the heck am I looking at, but here’s my son Jax…again. My child, who will be my million dollar mouth, but that’s ok. 😉
I’d rather put the investment in now, than have him turn into an adult and spending thousands of dollars on his health and quality of life.
He is a perfect example of why that little piece of tissue under his tongue, can cause so many issues in children and adults. Jax is what we would classify as moderate-severely tongue tied.
Most parents have zero clue if their child is tongue tied, unless they were nursed and had latch issues. Even then, majority of pediatricians will not recommend a release unless they are not gaining weight. 🤦🏼♀️
Here’s why it’s such a big deal:
👅: the tongue is the guide for your upper palate to expand- if the tongue is not on the roof of the mouth when developing in children, your palate will naturally be a lot narrower and create a smaller airway and less room for your adult teeth to come in
👅: your tongue is vital for swallowing, chewing, and talking- if your tongue cannot reach the roof of your mouth or is challenging you will learn to over- compensate with all your other facial muscles- creating long term issues with jaw pain, tension headaches/migraines, speech issues, digestive issues
👅: people who are tongue tied generally result into mouth breathers- this will almost guarantee sleep apnea, grinding/clenching, improper facial development, and a slippery slope of medical issues long term
These are just a few examples of the major consequences of how that small little tissue under the tongue can cause MAJOR long term issues!
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re now checking under your tongue and thinking you may be someone who may have a tongue tie too, it’s never too late! 😊
