🇺🇸 The Fourth of July Isn’t Easy for Everyone

While many celebrate with fireworks, parties, and loud gatherings — for others, especially those living with PTSD, addiction, or other mental health struggles, this holiday can be overwhelming.

🔥 Fireworks can sound like combat.
🍻 Parties can trigger cravings.
😞 Loud crowds and chaos can bring anxiety or trauma to the surface.

🧠 If this holiday is hard for you, you are not alone — and you do not have to suffer in silence.

💡 Coping Tips for the Holiday
✅ Make a plan ahead of time
✅ Have an exit strategy for overwhelming situations
✅ Use grounding techniques (deep breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 method)
✅ Set boundaries — it’s okay to say “no”
✅ Avoid triggering environments if you're in recovery
✅ Stay connected to supportive people — reach out, don’t isolate
✅ Consider noise-canceling headphones or calming apps during fireworks

📱 If you're struggling, reach out to a friend, sponsor, therapist, or support line. You're worth taking care of. Healing is not linear, and your progress is still progress.

❤️ To those silently navigating trauma, addiction, or anxiety this holiday: we see you. You're doing your best — and that’s enough

Marley has been a cornerstone in my life since 2011. He started doing therapy with me at Saint Monica’s and he stayed with me when I opened up Turning Point in 2014. He was actually CEO of the business, always showing up to work with his little bow tie! It’s with a heavy heart that I share that Marley crossed over to 🌈 Bridge. He was our furry little co-therapist who touched so many lives. Grief is a funny thing and touches people in so many different ways. Marley may not be with us in office, but he will now always be with you when you need something or someone to hug. These memory pillows turned out adorable! He loved all of you as much as we loved him. Even though I think he sometimes only showed up to work for the sweet potato treats! ♥️.

After going very part-time this last year due to family issues, it’s time that I put myself first again. I LOVE my career! After doing some reconstructing with Turning Point there are some really good things in the works for the Seward area. More to come….I am still in the office doing Out Patient Counseling 2 days per week, and I am doing contract work with the Department of Corrections 3 days a week in mental health. It’s a different type of challenge, but one I seem to really be enjoying. Someone asked me today, why? My answer was simple….. because this is where I think God is leading me right now. I’m not questioning, I’m just listening. Someone else told me about this song today. I’ve never heard of Shinedown before. It’s worth a listen! So grateful to my family for being supportive and stepping up in big ways!

Still accepting New Patients and so excited for what’s brewing!
