Melanoma can appear on the eyelid, not just the skin elsewhere on the body. A changing dark spot, new pigmentation, or lesion that doesn’t heal near the eye should never be ignored. Early evaluation and treatment can be lifesaving—when in doubt, get it checked.

If you’ve ever had a “stye” that just wouldn’t go away — chances are, it wasn’t a stye. It was a chalazion — a clogged oil gland in the eyelid that can swell, feel tender, and sometimes even affect your vision.

As an oculoplastic surgeon, this is one of the most common conditions I treat.
While warm compresses can help early on, chalazia that persist often need a small in-office procedure to drain the gland and get you feeling (and looking) better quickly.
