This month's member in the spotlight is Pamela DePiola! When asked about what’s unique about nephrology nursing, Pamela says it "is unique in that we are able to help patients and their families in a profound way. Patients who require dialysis support present with very complex comorbidities to be managed, hence incredible bonds are often formed between patients and health care providers. We really make a positive difference in our patients’ lives on a very personal level. This population becomes more like your second family, and I find this very rewarding."

The ANNA Nephrology Nursing Culture, Community and Connection Committee Chairperson (Deborah Brouwer-Maier RN, CNN) and Chair Designate (Lillian A. Pryor, DNP, RN, CNN) were sponsored by ANNA to attend the American Nurses Association 2026 Opportunity & Impact in Nursing Summit.

The focus of the summit was a working forum to accelerate progress, deepen collaboration, and drive lasting impact across education, practice, and leadership to address health equity issues and strengthen the nursing workforce. Real-world examples of barriers to health equity and to nursing's ability to sustain and grow our workforce were highlighted throughout the summit. The committee will follow up with a call to action for our members to help with the summit mission.
