I am a woman, I am a mother, I am a wife, a daughter, sister, friend…I am a doula. It isn’t a job, it is a passion, it is a love, it is everything. I have been fortunate to be a part of many amazing journeys and today, well today, I supported one of the strongest women I will ever know and her husband through their journey to capture the dream of welcoming their twins vaginally. They did it, we did it, we all did it, together. One of the most memorable moments of my life. I love being a doula.

I love taking the time to reflect on the birth experiences of my clients and the words often come easily to me. However, this time, I struggle to find the words to truly express and describe the birth experience that I was fortunate to be a part of on 4/3/21. The sky was robin’s egg blue, the sun shined bright and its palpable warmth helped the chill of the wind gusts feel cleansing instead of brisk. Christina (my client and a goddess of beauty and strength), Sarah (friend of Christina, naturopath physician, amazing woman) and I bonded together and embraced the strength in our “sacred women’s space” as we journeyed through. As her baby’s head was born, she turned under water, opened her eyes and looked right at her mother. It is a moment I will never forget. Today I have the pleasure of reflecting upon life after helping to welcome a baby earth side in the wee hours of this cold, snowy Vermont morning. The strength and beauty of the love between my clients and the pure love that emanated from both of them the moment their baby was placed on her mother’s chest was magical and breathtaking. The depth of every emotion that encompasses the birth experience is felt in each moment, especially in one that is nourished, respected and treasured by those providing care (Gentle Landing Birth Center). The honor and gratefulness I feel to be welcomed and trusted in such an intimate and special moment lives deep within my heart and soul. Each time I observe the coming of life, it is as awe inspiring as the first time. Bless you all and welcome to the world baby girl!
