We remember you today and everyday.
Let us honor your memory and sacrifice by showing compassion and kindness to all, including a stranger, in our actions and words.
It is not what is said or done, but the warmth a person feels.

Honoring & Remembering Maryland Fallen Heroes.
Sharptown V.F.D. ~ Wicomico County ~ Maryland

November 10,1996
It was nearing midnight on Saturday November 9,1996 .
Sharptown VFD Firefighter Steve Trice and his fiancé Jennifer were traveling on Jersey Road when they happened upon a single vehicle mva with multiple ejections, car on its roof in the roadway, multiple teen age victims, including a female victim who had been ejected and landed in a ravine off the shoulder of the road. FF Trice got into the ravine to render care while Jennifer went for help. Soon, the headlights of another vehicle were seen coming towards the accident, a work van, whose driver was unaware he was approaching an accident.
Suddenly, the driver of the work van saw the car on its roof and slammed on his brakes. The work van skidded sideways and came to rest on the shoulder of the road next to the ravine where FF Trice was rendering aid to the injured girl. The driver got out of the van and went to help one of the other accident victims in the roadway.
Suddenly, the shoulder of the road, where the van had come to a stop, collapsed & the 6 ton work van fell into the ravine.
Tragically, Firefighter Trice & the female victim were both fatally injured.
Firefighter Trice grew up learning about serving the public & the good works of a volunteer fire department from his family & the members of the Blades VFD where his father was Assistant Chief. Firefighter Trice joined the United States Navy and upon his return to the Eastern Shore he joined the Sharptown VFD where he was serving at the time of his Line Of Duty Death.
Firefighter Donald Steven Trice Jr. , a United States Navy Veteran, was 23 years old and had served in the Fire/EMS service for 2 ½ years.

As we enter into cooler weather, we would like to remind you how important it is to have a fire escape plan for your home and family. Fire prevention and safety is for the young and experienced. Please make an urgent commitment to make and review a fire escape plan and obtain equipment needed for two story homes as well as test your smoke detectors. Most of all PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
