Jennifer Hix, Certified Breastfeeding Counselor and Certified Doula, recently helped celebrate the installation of a new lactation room for teachers at Arnett schools. This dedicated space provides a private, comfortable place for breastfeeding and pumping during the school day.

Jennifer, along with Amy Vasko, APRN-CNM, presented a plaque on behalf of Newman Memorial Hospital to recognize this important step in supporting working mothers.

"My mission is to close the gap in rural healthcare by offering trusted lactation supports that empowers mothers, nurtures babies, and strengthens families" -Jennifer Hix.

Newman Memorial Hospital is proud to partner with our local schools to ensure mothers have the resources and support they need to care for their babies while continuing their important work in the classroom.

During Patient Access Awareness Week, we are proud to recognize the dedicated teams who serve as the first point of connection for our patients and families. Their commitment to accuracy, compassion, and exceptional service helps create a positive experience from the very beginning of each visit.

We would like to spotlight our outstanding Patient Access staff across our organization, including Shattuck Clinic Registration, Shattuck ER Registration, Shattuck Front Desk Registration, Patient Navigator, Woodward Specialty Clinic Staff Registration, Woodward Family Clinic Registration, and Mooreland Clinic Registration.

These team members play a vital role in guiding patients through the healthcare process, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience while supporting both clinical teams and the communities we serve. Their professionalism and dedication do not go unnoticed.

Today on Good Friday, we celebrated with a special Easter egg hunt for our patients. Each egg was filled with fun surprises and a handwritten note of hope and encouragement from our staff.

Graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in healthcare are encouraged to apply. Six scholarships in the amount of 1000 dollars each will be awarded to eligible students from Arnett, Shattuck, Fargo-Gage, Laverne, Woodward, and Mooreland.

Application deadline is Friday, April 24, 2026. Scholarship recipients will be announced on Monday, May 3, 2026.

We are aware of an article published by the Ellis County Star suggesting that Newman Memorial Hospital has been acquired.

This information is false.

Newman Memorial Hospital remains independent, locally governed, and fully operational, with no changes to our ownership, leadership, or services.

While the article references an April Fools’ theme, the manner in which it was presented is misleading, in poor taste, and has created unnecessary confusion among our patients, staff, and community. Publishing inaccurate information about a healthcare organization carries real consequences for public trust and operations, particularly in the current environment.

We are reviewing this matter closely and evaluating all appropriate responses.

Newman Memorial Hospital remains focused on what matters most: providing safe, high-quality care and serving our communities across northwest Oklahoma.

Yesterday we celebrated German culture with the entire Newman team. From cooking together and learning the language to sharing a meaningful community meal, it was a day full of connection and fun.

We also had the opportunity to host a lunch and learn with Nyki Long, RN, and Ruth Ann Givens, who shared valuable information about the WIC program and current nutritional guidelines.

This is the heart of Newman. We come together to make this more than just a place to work. It is a community and a lifestyle. We are truly grateful for everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Newman Memorial Hospital had the honor of welcoming members of a family whose legacy is deeply woven into the history of both the hospital and our community.

Priscilla Plumb, Steve Plumb, Mark McLane, Colleen McLane, and Michael Newman McLane gathered to visit, reflect, and celebrate the enduring impact of their family. This visit was not only a reflection of the past, but a powerful reminder of a legacy that continues to shape the future.

More than a century ago, Dr. O.C. Newman laid the foundation for what became known as the “Little Mayo of the West,” building a model of care rooted in service, innovation, and unwavering commitment to community. That same spirit lives on today through our dedicated teams, driving excellence in modern rural healthcare.

Priscilla’s grandfather, Dr. M. Haskell Newman (“Hack”), carried that legacy forward as part of a remarkable lineage of physicians who helped shape healthcare across Ellis County and beyond. The family returned to see how the hospital has grown and to witness how those founding values continue to guide us today.

“We were especially moved by the leadership team’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the culture envisioned by our great-grandfather. Thank you for honoring his legacy. It means so much to our family to see his vision still alive in the care you provide today.” Priscilla shared.

Hospital leadership shared why they chose Newman Memorial Hospital and why they continue to serve here, emphasizing a shared commitment to patient centered care, service, and stewardship of a legacy greater than any one individual.

Stories were shared, memories revisited, and deep connections celebrated, reminding us all of the role Newman Memorial Hospital has played as both a symbol of care and a cornerstone of the community.

Dr. M. Haskell Newman’s life reflected a relentless pursuit of excellence in medicine. From his roots in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to national recognition in ENT and craniofacial surgery, his impact reached far beyond our region.

Equally inspiring is his daughter, Jo Ann “Jody” Newman McLane, whose life of faith, service, and compassion continues to reflect the very values that define Newman Memorial Hospital.
