Rooted Mama Therapy

Rooted Mama Therapy Hi! I'm Victoria Peña. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor living in San Antonio, TX with my husband and our spirited 3-year-old daughter.

From feeling like you're not meeting your expectations as a mom and letting down the people you love most - to feeling assured and relaxed - knowing you're doing a great job, and feeling 100% capable of having a happy, connected family. I've spent a good amount of my career working with a wide range of clients ages 4-64 and focused on overcoming a variety of mental, emotional, or general life chal

lenges. Over time I've noticed myself naturally feeling that exciting spark of curious interest when working with women who feel overwhelmed with the challenges of motherhood. Working together to break unwanted generational parenting habits and develop a new set of parenting tools - where we've weeded out the bad and held on to the good - has been the most rewarding work for me. It's been so rewarding that it's inspired me to make it my whole focus for my practice. After spending several months learning more about what is known about parenting methods, developmental stages of childhood, what to expect, and what we know works well as of today - I have used all the info and training available to me to open Rooted Mama Therapy. A place made for mamas to go from feeling like they're letting down themselves and the people they love - to feeling confidence and conviction in their ability to raise happy, loving, and resilient little humans. I'm excited to work with women who are ready to end parenting habits they know aren't working and become the relaxed and self-assured moms they've always wanted to be.

Are you a mom who feels like you’re constantly falling short of what your family needs? You’re not alone. Many mothers feel the weight of trying to do it all—and that pressure can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure of yourself.

I specialize in supporting mothers who struggle with these feelings of inadequacy, helping them break through limiting beliefs and inherited patterns that hold them back from being fully present and joyful with their families.

In our work together, I create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your deepest concerns and emotions. My approach is rooted in curiosity and compassion, allowing us to dive into the core issues that may be impacting your well-being.

During our initial sessions, we’ll focus on getting to know your unique story, so we can develop a treatment plan that’s as individual as you are. This collaborative approach ensures that the therapy we create together will meet your specific needs.

My practice is built on the belief that true healing begins with you. If you have a child who is struggling with mental health, I’m here to guide you in nourishing your own well-being.

By investing in yourself, you’re not only creating positive change for you, but you’re also making a difference in your child’s life and the overall health of your family.

I’m passionate about this work because I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is to help mothers navigate the challenges of motherhood.

As a mother myself, I understand the pressures of balancing self-care with caregiving, and the deep fulfillment that comes with breaking free from generational patterns.

After years of working with a wide range of clients, I’ve discovered that supporting moms in their unique journey is where I truly shine—and where I can make the most impact.

I’m here to help you create lasting change—both for yourself and for your family.

Self-care is a topic that has gained a lot of awareness over the past several years

And thank goodness!!

But, as a parent, self-care can look a little different from ideal

At its highest potential, self-care can most certainly look like going to a spa to spend hours getting pampered, or taking a luxury vacation, or even taking some days off to do your favorite things

Which is something we should DEFINITELY do if we have the means

but in reality, that's not doable for many parents to do often enough, if even at all

So self-care works best when it's aligned with the reality of our everyday lives

Here are some tips to help distinguish what self-care looks like vs. what it doesn't look like so we can be very mindful (very demure😉) and practice it more often

If you want to figure out what self-care can look like for your everyday life, check out my blog where I talk more about it here https://www.rootedmamatherapy.com/post/8-realistic-ways-to-practice-self-care-for-exhausted-parents

P.S.

**Controversial Take** Let me know if you have a different opinion but I DON'T count taking a shower as self-care.

Of course, it isn't good for our mental health when we skip too many showers, but I personally count it as a basic need to keep us functional

And I see self-care as a tool to take us from functional to THRIVING.💁‍♀️✨

Self-care doesn't always have to mean taking 4 hours to pamper yourself at the spa or taking a long vacation
(although it wouldn't hurt 😉)
but really, it can be a stack of small things, I'm talking teeny-tiny, that we do EVERYDAY to keep us from burning out.

Maybe it's the weather, allergies, back-to-school time/end of summer, the election year, or some other reason.. but many of us are feeling the fatigue right now. Giving ourselves permission to rest and slow down can be difficult for many of us and if you're one of those types who "can't stop, won't stop" and struggle with guilt when something forces you to stop your grind - this affirmation is for you 💛

This month I've been sharing some takes on Reacting vs. Responding but considering we're all human... we're going to react sometimes.

So what can we do if we have a slip and express a reaction to our kids? Hint: It's definitely not to pretend it didn't happen and sweep it under the rug! 🙅‍♀️

Instead, try these six steps to recover after reacting - it's so worth it!
