I absolutely love working with my students and because I meet with them online, I rarely get to meet them in person! I got to meet with a student that I love and we met recently. She and her mom drove a long way to meet and go bowling. I’m so thankful to spend time with her!

I had a breakthrough with a student today! I was working with a student today and she HATES spelling with a passion. In the past, she has cried when going through her spelling list. But today, she spelled them with confidence and asked for more! As part of the lesson, there are always 2 sentences after the spelling portion. Before we even finished with spelling, she asked excitedly, "We're going to write sentences, right?" That is fantastic!!

For many students in the next few weeks, it’s testing time at school. Please give your child(ren) a few more hugs and a little more special treatment. I’ve met with 3 students in the past several weeks that have come to therapy almost in tears. Even if they don’t say so, they need extra love during this time.

Parents: start asking questions if something seems off with your child's reading. Try to set a designated time for them to read to you. Many parents wait until third grade to begin seeking help and by then the child has lost 3-4 years of valuable time. Reading problems can be detected in both reading and speech as early as 5 years old. Listen and ask questions. Find professionals who have been specifically trained to help kids with reading differences and dyslexia.

Don’t leave reading to chance!
Early identification of dyslexia and intervention is essential.
Waiting until we fail before identifying and intervening is not only detrimental to our self esteem, but puts us at an academic disadvantage.
