We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Christy Gehr, senior director of finance, told us how Carla Whitehurst, a physical therapist in Seminole, stepped in on short notice to speak at a recent Leadership Seminole course. “She stepped in on short notice to help community members learn more about the physical therapy services we offer and how we support patients every day. Carla’s passion for her work truly shines through, and we’re grateful to have her on our team.” We truly are!!

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Chelsi Blackwolf, RRT, respiratory care lead, was recognized by Jimmy Larson, director of plant operations and maintenance for “living our mission. She consistently brings a positive attitude and has a way of making everyone around her better. She is always willing to go above and beyond to take care of her staff and other departments when needed. I appreciate her dedication, leadership, and compassion. We are fortunate to have her on our team!” We certainly are! 🥰

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Hayley Keener, a clinical partner in the PCU, was recognized by her manager Jon Cooper, RN. Jon said this about Hayley: “She is diligent about doing what is required in her position but also is always looking for ways to improve our processes. She is helping to build a ‘boot camp’ for our clinical partners to help them do their job duties with quality and consistency. She also picks up extra shifts as a patient experience representative occasionally to help out.” Sounds like a super hero to us!! 😂😍

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. One of those honorees was radiation oncology supervisor Erika Kuykendall who was recognized by Nikki Robinson, her department director, for her “outstanding dedication and professionalism.” Nikki said “Erika consistently steps up and takes on additional responsibilities without hesitation, never saying, ‘that’s not my job,’ and never seeking recognition for herself. She has taken on responsibility for additional departments, staff and remains highly engaged with each, working tirelessly to ensure they have what they need and serves as a strong advocate for them. When I think about truly living our mission, Erika exemplifies it every single day. Our organization is truly blessed to have her dedication and loyalty.” Both Erika and Nikki are super heroes in our book! They even have the uniforms! 😂😂

As Frances Harris, RN, Seminole emergency department charge nurse, approaches her 24-year workaversary this month, her supervisor Bobbi Cannon, RN, took the opportunity to celebrate her lasting contributions to our team, patients and department. Bobbi said, “Her team consistently describes her as dependable, principled, protective and the best charge nurse. Frani combines strength and compassion, goes above and beyond and sets a strong example for others. She embodies leadership and dedication, making us grateful for her commitment and excellence.” Thanks for all you do, Frani! 🥰

We recently celebrated Health Care Week and asked our teams to let us know of a superstar co-worker they’d like to recognize. Cait Godwin, infection preventionist, is more like a Super Hero to all of us in Shawnee -- she even has the mask and cape to prove it! 🤣🤣 Teresa Blevins, nursing director, took the time to recognize Cait for “her passion and dedication to preventing hospital-acquired infections. Cait consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of her role by finding creative and engaging ways to educate and motivate staff. In addition to her creativity, Cait is always encouraging and supportive, offering a kind word to those who may be struggling. Cait is truly a valuable and integral member of our team.” Keep being you, Cait!! ❤️😷

We are so proud of the the hard work our Environmental Services team does to make our hospital shine! And, we aren't the only ones who noticed. Becker’s has compiled a list of U.S. hospitals with a CMS 5-star rating for cleanliness and our hospital made the list…AGAIN!

CMS’ patient survey database listed hospital ratings based on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys, a national, standardized survey of hospital patients about their experience during a recent inpatient hospital stay. The surveys were completed between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. The data was most recently updated May 13.

The Potawatomi Fire and Avedis Foundation salute local educators and healthcare workers for their achievements and service to others at each regular-season home game.

Last week, Angi Mohr (far right), president of SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital – Shawnee and Julie McCormick (far left), superintendent of Gordon Cooper Technology Center, presented MVP awards to a father-daughter duo -- Rick McClure, who is retiring after more than 30 years of teaching, and his daughter, Taylor Williams, an athletic trainer with SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital - Shawnee. Taylor is the Potawatomi Fire team trainer.
