Today we recognize National Funeral Director and Mortician Day, a day to honor those who dedicate their lives to serving families during some of their most difficult moments.

Funeral directors wear many hats. They guide families through important decisions, help plan meaningful services, and provide steady compassion when it’s needed most. Behind the scenes, their work also requires a great deal of skill, knowledge, and care. Morticians are able to help restore a natural and peaceful appearance, allowing families the opportunity to see their loved one again and say a final goodbye. That moment of recognition and remembrance can bring comfort and healing that lasts far beyond the day of the service.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedicated team here at the Amos Family Funeral Home who approach this work with professionalism, respect, and heart every single day. Serving our community in this way is truly a privilege.

Today, we thank funeral directors and morticians everywhere for the quiet but meaningful work they do.

Some very cool history about the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and its founding lead by E. Paul Amos, amongst others, in 1946, the same year as our funeral home’s inception!

80 YEARS of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce! ⭐️ On this day, March 8th, 1946, a group of local business leaders led by E. Paul Amos of Amos Family Funeral Home brought back the Shawnee Chamber after initial attempts to begin the Chamber fell through over 20 years earlier.

Eight decades later, the Shawnee Chamber is stronger than ever as an Accredited 5-Star Chamber with 500+ members, the Shawnee Economic Development Council, Visit Shawnee Kansas and Downtown Shawnee, KS.

We’ll continue sharing our 80 years of history all year long. Make sure to follow the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce to see all of the people, moments, and businesses who have shaped Shawnee into what it is today.

Even as the calendar turns and the world changes around us, the bonds we share do not fade with time. With each new season, we move ahead—not leaving them behind, but bringing them with us in a different way. Love does not end; it simply changes form. And in every sunrise, every blossom, and every fresh beginning, there is space for remembrance alongside renewal.

The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner is always an event we look forward to—and this year did not disappoint! From casino games raising money for scholarships to some exciting raffle wins, it was a wonderful evening supporting a great cause. Thank you to the Chamber for putting on such a fun and well-organized night. We may have missed a full group photo (proof we were having too much fun), but we’re grateful for the memories—and the photos—we did capture!

It's no coincidence that Amos Family Funeral Home and the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce are simultaneously celebrating 80th anniversaries. For our first 80th Anniversary spotlight, we're taking it back to where it all started.

In 1946, E. Paul Amos and his wife, Hazel, created Amos Family Funeral Home. That same year, he helped organize the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and served as its first President. The Amos family has had a long history of partnership with Shawnee and the Chamber of Commerce. E. Paul's son, Eugene Paul Amos, was the Past President and Honorary Member of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, where he received Citizen of the Year. In 2020, E. Paul's grandson, Gregg Amos, former Chamber President, won the Shawnee Citizen of the Year, and in 2021, great-grandson Parker Amos served as Chamber Board Chair.

Parker Amos, pictured here holding a photo of his great-grandfather, E. Paul Amos, now serves as the proud President/Funeral Director of Amos Family Funeral Home.

Thank you to the Amos family! The Shawnee Chamber would not be where it is today without your leadership and family legacy.
