It's no coincidence that Amos Family Funeral Home and the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce are simultaneously celebrating 80th anniversaries. For our first 80th Anniversary spotlight, we're taking it back to where it all started.

In 1946, E. Paul Amos and his wife, Hazel, created Amos Family Funeral Home. That same year, he helped organize the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and served as its first President. The Amos family has had a long history of partnership with Shawnee and the Chamber of Commerce. E. Paul's son, Eugene Paul Amos, was the Past President and Honorary Member of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, where he received Citizen of the Year. In 2020, E. Paul's grandson, Gregg Amos, former Chamber President, won the Shawnee Citizen of the Year, and in 2021, great-grandson Parker Amos served as Chamber Board Chair.

Parker Amos, pictured here holding a photo of his great-grandfather, E. Paul Amos, now serves as the proud President/Funeral Director of Amos Family Funeral Home.

Thank you to the Amos family! The Shawnee Chamber would not be where it is today without your leadership and family legacy.

New Year = New Logo🎉

In 2026, we proudly celebrate 80 years as a family-owned and operated business dedicated to serving Shawnee and the Kansas City Metropolitan area. We are deeply honored to reach this meaningful milestone and remain immensely grateful to the families who have placed their trust in us during their times of greatest need.

As we look ahead to 2026, we pause to honor and cherish the memories of the past year—those that brought joy, and those that shaped us through loss. We’ve shared this “Resolutions for the Bereaved” before, but thought it offered up some great advice for going into 2026.

Our office is closed both today and tomorrow, but a funeral director is available by phone at 913-631-5566.

Our staff enjoyed a wonderful evening together at our annual holiday party this past week! The work we do is meaningful, but it can also be emotionally demanding, and it takes strong support from both our families and one another to ensure the families and loved ones entrusted to our care receive the compassion and dignity they deserve.

We are incredibly proud of our team and grateful for the care, professionalism, and heart they bring to every family we serve. We look forward to the new year at the Amos Family Funeral Home!

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. As we gather today, our tables may feel a little different and our hearts a bit heavier if you're missing someone special who is no longer here. May gratitude sit beside the grief, reminding us of the love that still shapes our lives.

*Our office is closed today, but a licensed funeral director is available by phone at 913-631-5566.*
