"When should I get my baby checked?"

As soon as possible.

Your baby's first year is the most neurologically active time of their entire life. Their brain is forming 1 million neural connections PER SECOND. Their nervous system is learning how to regulate everything: digestion, sleep, immune response, movement, emotional regulation.

But birth (even the "easy" ones) is incredibly physical. The pressure, pulling, twisting, and compression that happens during delivery can create tension and imbalances in your baby's delicate spine, especially in the upper neck.

This interference can show up as:
-Colic and excessive crying
-Difficulty latching or nursing on one side
-Torticollis (head tilting/preference)
-Reflux and digestive issues
-Sleep struggles
-Developmental delays in rolling, crawling, sitting

When we check babies (as early as hours or days old), we're not "fixing" them. We're removing any interference in their nervous system so their body can develop, heal, and grow the way it's meant to.

Gentle, specific adjustments support:
✨ Proper brain-body communication
✨ Optimal digestion and sleep
✨ Immune system development
✨ Motor skill progression
✨ Emotional regulation

The earlier you support your baby's nervous system, the stronger their foundation for lifelong health.

Your baby's nervous system is their lifeline. Make sure it's functioning at 100% from day one.

The room won't stop spinning. You feel like you're on a boat.

Simple tasks like standing up makes you nauseous or turning your head triggers episodes that last hours or days.
You've been told it's BPPV (crystals in your inner ear), Meniere's disease, or vestibular migraines.
You've done the Epley maneuver a hundred times. Sometimes it helps temporarily, but often it doesn't. And it just keeps coming back.

It's not your ear that is causing the vertigo- It's your NECK.
Your brain uses three systems to know where you are in space:

1. Vestibular system (inner ear) - detects head movement
2. Visual system (eyes) - sees your position relative to surroundings
3. Proprioceptive system (spine and joints) - feels your body's position

When these three systems send matching signals, your brain knows exactly where you are. When the signals don't match, your brain gets confused—and that confusion is vertigo.

Your upper neck (cervical spine) sends MORE proprioceptive signals to your brain than any other area of your body. These signals tell your brain where your head is positioned at all times.

When C1 or C2 is subluxated (imbalanced), your brain receives WRONG information about where your head is. The proprioceptive signals don't match what your inner ear and eyes are reporting, and your brain panics. This causes the room to spin.

Upper cervical subluxations also affect your brainstem—where all balance information is processed. This disrupts vestibular nucleus function, communication between balance centers, blood flow to the inner ear, and vagus nerve regulation (which is why you feel nauseous).

Your balance system can't integrate information properly, even if your inner ear is structurally fine.

Upper cervical adjustments by a trained chiropractor restore accurate proprioceptive input from your neck to your brain. After an upper neck adjustment:
✅ Your brain receives correct information about head position
✅ Signals match between all three balance systems
✅ Brainstem function improves
✅ Vertigo resolves

If Epley maneuvers aren't working, if medications barely help, if it keeps coming back—your inner ear might not be the problem. Your upper cervical spine is.

Fertility, pregnancy, and healing aren’t about just one system—they’re about the whole body working together. ✨

After years of infertility and reaching the limits of what western medicine alone could offer, this client chose to support her body in a different way. By adding chiropractic care alongside fertility treatments, she focused on helping her nervous system, hips, and pelvis function more optimally.

Just six months later, she became pregnant. 🤍

She continues receiving care throughout pregnancy to help her body relax, adapt to change, and allow her hips to move and function the way they’re designed to—supporting both her and her growing baby every step of the way.

We are deeply honored to be part of journeys like this and to support bodies as they do what they were created to do. 🌱

Happy Female Doctor Day 🤍

Today we’re celebrating the women behind Grounded Roots Chiropractic.

Dr. Erika is truly the heart and soul of this practice — the one who dreamed it up, built it from the ground up, and created the vision of serving families with care that’s nervous-system focused, intentional, and rooted in community. Her passion for helping moms, babies, and families thrive is what started it all and continues to guide everything we do.

And over the last several months, we’ve been so grateful to welcome Dr. Kara, who has stepped in so seamlessly and fully embodied that same mission and heart for care. The way she shows up for practice members and families with compassion and dedication has made her such a natural part of the Grounded Roots family.

Together, we’re so excited about what this year holds — with big plans, growing families, and new ways to serve our Sheboygan community.

Thank you for trusting us to care for you. We truly love what we get to do every day 🤍

You get to choose how you show up for your health.

Every day, you're making decisions. Some may feel small and some feel overwhelming.
Healthcare isn't something that just happens TO you. It's something you get to actively choose.

When you choose nervous system care? You're choosing to address the ROOT of how your body functions, not just chase symptoms around.
Your nervous system controls everything—how you sleep, digest, regulate stress, fight off illness, and heal.

When there's interference in that system (what we call stress on the system), your body can't do what it was designed to do.

Chiropractic adjustments remove that interference. They restore communication between your brain and body. They give your nervous system the space to FUNCTION the way it's meant to.

This isn't about fixing one thing. It's about supporting your body's ability to heal, adapt, and thrive, from the inside out.

Choosing nervous system care is choosing:
✨ To trust your body's wisdom
✨ To prioritize function over just managing symptoms
✨ To show up for yourself in a way that actually supports long-term health

You deserve a healthcare approach that sees you as whole. One that honors your body's innate intelligence and empowers you to take control of your wellbeing.

That's what we're here for.

Improving posture and reducing physical stress patterns are essential for overall well-being. Here are some tips of our favorite tips to improve posture:

🌿Regular Chiropractic Care: Chiropractic care helps decrease physical stress patterns that the body holds on to which can be seen as poor posture, tension, or discomforts. Chiropractic care can improve the brain-body connection, which may be contributing to poor posture and physical stress patterns. Consistent chiropractic care can help improve spinal alignment and overall musculoskeletal function.

👓Ergonomic Workspace: If you work at a desk, ensure that your workspace is ergonomically designed. Adjust your chair, desk, and computer monitor to promote proper posture. Sit with your feet flat on the floor, knees at a 90-degree angle, and your computer screen at eye level. Make sure to take standing breaks as well!

🤸‍♀️Strengthen Core Muscles: A strong core helps support your spine and maintain good posture. Incorporate exercises that target the abdominal and back muscles, such as planks, bridges, and yoga poses like the dead bug or table top as well.

🚴‍♀️Stretch and Mobilize: Perform regular stretches to keep muscles flexible and reduce tension. Focus on areas prone to stress, such as the neck, shoulders, and lower back. Gentle stretching routines or activities like yoga can be beneficial.

🧘‍♀️Mindful Posture Awareness: Pay attention to your posture throughout the day. Use cues like setting alarms or sticky notes as reminders to check and correct your posture. Practice sitting and standing with your shoulders back and your head in a neutral position.

🏋️‍♀️Proper Lifting Techniques: When lifting heavy objects, bend your knees, keep the object close to your body, and use your leg muscles to lift, rather than straining your back.

🏃‍♀️‍➡️Regular Exercise: Engage in regular physical activity to improve overall strength and flexibility. Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight and reduce the strain on your spine.

📱Limit Screen Time: Excessive screen time can lead to poor posture. Take breaks to stand, stretch, and reposition yourself when using digital devices.

Whatever birth looked like for you, know that our office is here to support YOU and your entire family's health needs.

Sudden changes to birth plans such as a c-section or using other interventions can cause both stress on mother and baby. This can lead to both mom and babies nervous system to suddenly activate the sympathetic side of the nervous system or become in "fight or flight" phase. While this is needed for survival, it is not the response that we want as baby makes it's way earthside.

This imbalance of the nervous system at the start of life can cause physical and emotional stress patterns to occur. Body tension or inability to latch correctly during breastfeeding, sleep disruptions, restlessness, weakened immune system, digestive troubles, and overall dysregulation can be a consequence of birth trauma.

While birth is entering the unknown and out of our control, Grounded Roots Chiropractic is here to make sure that your child's nervous system can become more balanced and regulated from the very start of life.

Are you tired of dealing with reoccurring sickness or feeling under the weather.
Here are our FAVORITE five natural ways to support your immune system:

1. Nervous System-Focused Chiropractic Care: Chiropractic adjustments can help ensure that your nervous system is functioning optimally. Since the nervous system plays a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions, including the immune response, keeping it in balance is essential for overall health.

2. Whole and nourishing foods: Maintain a balanced and nutritious diet rich in high protein, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables. Nutrients like vitamins C and D, zinc, and antioxidants support immune function.

3. Intentional movement daily: Engage in regular physical activity to boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote overall well-being. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week and get outside daily!

4. Adequate Sleep: Prioritize quality sleep, as it allows your body to rest, repair, and strengthen the immune system. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.

5. Stress Management: Chronic stress weakens the immune system. Practice stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga to help your body manage stress effectively.

Remember, a well-functioning nervous system is at the core of a healthy immune response. By combining chiropractic care with a balanced lifestyle, you can provide your immune system with the support it needs to thrive naturally.
