🎉🎂 Happy 50th Birthday, Dr. Scarlett! 🎂🎉

From all of us at Wisconsin Spine & Pain, we want to wish you a very happy 50th birthday! Thank you for being an incredible physician, leader, mentor, and all-around great human. Your dedication to your patients, your commitment to innovation, and your calm presence in even the busiest days make a difference more than you know.

Now for the important part… 50 means 50 years of experience (not aging 😄). You’ve officially reached the age where wisdom is high, outcomes are excellent, and the dad jokes are fully justified. We won’t say you’re older - just more well-seasoned, like a fine bourbon or a perfectly aged Wisconsin cheese 🧀😉.

We’re grateful to have you on the team and hope this milestone year brings good health, great memories, and maybe a slightly earlier bedtime.

Help us wish Dr. Scarlett a happy birthday in the comments! 🎈🎉

🥧🥧 When One Pie Just Isn’t Enough… 🥧🥧

Our November fundraiser brought out generosity, community spirit—and in Dr. Jung’s case… double consequences. 😅

Thanks to the incredible support from our patients, staff, and community, we were able to raise funds and donate directly to local food banks in the communities we serve. And Dr. Jung? He didn’t just step up—he went above and beyond.

One pie turned into two.
Two pies turned into legend status. 🥧🥧😂

All jokes aside, this fundraiser was about giving back, supporting local organizations, and having a little fun along the way. Dr. Jung took it like a champ, and the impact goes far beyond the whipped cream and pudding.

Thank you to everyone who donated and participated. This is what happens when a community comes together—sometimes with extra pie.

🥧 Proof That Our Doctors Really Care 🥧

Giving back is serious business…
But sometimes it gets a little messy. 😏

As part of our November fundraiser, Dr. Scarlett stepped up and followed through on a promise—and let’s just say the pie did not hold back. 🥧😂

Behind the laughs is something we’re truly proud of:
The funds raised were donated to local food banks, supporting the very communities our patients and families call home.

We’re grateful for everyone who participated, donated, and made this fundraiser such a success. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do—care, connection, and community always come first.

(Pies to the face are optional… but encouraged.) 😉

Educating the Next Generation. Innovating for Today’s Patients.

At Wisconsin Spine & Pain, Dr. Michael Jung is dedicated to more than exceptional patient care - he is actively shaping the future of pain medicine by teaching and mentoring tomorrow’s physicians. His passion for innovation, evidence-based practice, and minimally invasive solutions is helping elevate care across our region.

One of the most exciting advancements Dr. Jung teaches and performs is the Minimally Invasive SI Joint Fusion procedure - a new frontier in treating SI joint dysfunction.

Why Minimally invasive Is Changing the Game

The sacroiliac (SI) joint is a major contributor to lower back and buttock pain, but traditional surgical options were historically invasive. Percutaneous Minimally Invasive provides a breakthrough approach:

🔹 Performed through a tiny needle tract - not large incisions
🔹 Truly percutaneous, resulting in minimal tissue disruption
🔹 Single-point access that allows implant delivery through a narrow channel
🔹 Outpatient procedure - patients go home the same day
🔹 Stability focused: designed to immediately stabilize and support fusion
🔹 Significantly reduced recovery time compared to traditional surgery

The precision of the Percutaneous system means accurate, targeted placement of implants while preserving the surrounding ligaments and musculature. It’s one of the least invasive SI joint fusion techniques available today.

Leading Through Education & Innovation

Dr. Jung regularly trains other physicians on these advanced techniques - helping expand access to safer, faster, and more effective options for patients across Wisconsin, Nationally and Internationally.

When physicians learn better, patients heal better.
Dr. Jung is proud to push the field forward, one minimally invasive procedure - and one future physician - at a time.

SCIATICA: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Do you have pain that shoots from your lower back down your leg?

It might be sciatica — one of the most common causes of leg and back pain we treat.

What is Sciatica?
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve - the largest nerve in the body - becomes irritated or compressed.

This can cause:
🔥 Sharp or burning pain down the leg
🧊 Numbness or tingling
⚡ Electric shock sensations
💪 Leg weakness
😣 Increased pain with sitting or bending

Common Causes
Herniated or bulging discs
Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spine)
Degenerative disc disease
Piriformis syndrome
Trauma or overuse injury

The Good News
Sciatica is treatable - and earlier care means better outcomes.

At Wisconsin Spine and Pain, we offer:
Minimally invasive nerve treatments
Epidural steroid injections
Physical therapy guidance
Image-guided pain procedures

Second opinions and personalized treatment plans

When to Seek Help
You should be evaluated if:
Pain lasts > 2 weeks
Pain affects sleep or mobility
Weakness develops in the leg
Pain is worsening, not improving

No Referral Needed. Second Opinions Welcome.

WEEKEND FOOTBALL PAIN? LET’S TALK SPORTS INJURIES

If you watched pro football this weekend, you saw it again - injuries change the game fast.
From tight hamstrings to low back hits, players are out in seconds if pain isn’t addressed early.

Common Sports Injuries & How to Stay in the Game
Staying active is important, but even the most experienced athletes can run into:
Sprains & strains
Tendonitis
Sciatica or nerve irritation
Lower back pain
Hip and hamstring tightness

And we saw plenty of that around the NFL this week - key players limping off before halftime, “questionable” to return, and post-game pressers full of injury updates. One bad step or awkward twist can change everything.

Quick Facts (Worth Knowing)
✔ Low back pain accounts for up to 20% of all sports-related injuries
✔ Hamstring strains are the #1 non-contact injury in football
✔ Early treatment reduces recovery time by more than 50%
✔ Most weekend athletes get hurt on sudden changes of direction - just like the pros

PRO TIP: PAIN IS A SIGNAL - NOT A CHALLENGE
Even NFL players don’t “just push through it.”
They get:
Imaging
Rehab plans
Pain management
Strength and mobility coaching
And minimally invasive treatments when needed

If the pros listen to their bodies, you should too.

Stay Ready. Stay Healthy. Stay in the Game.

Why patients love it:

Winter weather is on its way!

As the temperatures drop and the snow starts to fall, your body might feel the chill in more ways than one. Cold weather can cause muscles to tighten and joints to ache, especially for those managing chronic pain.

At Wisconsin Spine & Pain, we’re here to help you find relief and keep moving comfortably all winter long.

Our tips for staying safe (and pain-free!) this winter:
✅ Warm up before heading outside, gentle stretching helps loosen tight muscles.
✅ Dress in layers to keep your muscles warm and flexible.
✅ Watch your step! Take small, careful steps on icy or snowy sidewalks to prevent slips and falls.
✅ Stay active indoors, light movement keeps joints healthy and blood flowing.

Don’t let winter weather slow you down! If pain from the cold, slips, or tension is affecting your daily life, our team can help you find lasting relief.
