This holiday season, Sheboygan Senior Community turned a classic tradition into something truly special. For our Christmas Cookie Contest, staff members baked our residents’ favorite cookies, many using cherished family recipes passed down through generations. Along the way, stories were shared, tears were shed, and memories came flooding back of childhood kitchens, handwritten recipe cards, and holidays spent with loved ones.
Some residents even reached out to family members to find their mother’s original recipes, while others guided staff through ingredient lists remembered by heart. We have watched faces light up as familiar flavors brought comfort, joy, and a deep sense of home.
When our Physical Therapy Director baked alongside resident Delores, she shared that her special cookie recipe came from a childhood family friend more than 70 years ago.
Even better, many residents rolled up their sleeves and baked right alongside staff here at SSC, flour on their cheeks and smiles all around, creating new memories in the place they now call home.
Life Enrichment Manager Sally Bork shared,
"Watching our residents reconnect with these recipes and memories has been incredibly emotional. These cookies are about so much more than baking. They are about family, tradition, and reminding our residents that their stories matter."
“I am so happy. Thank you.” – Jerry, current resident
We can’t wait to celebrate together at our Christmas Cookie Contest tomorrow, December 17 at 2 pm. This has been a beautiful reminder that sometimes the sweetest moments are made by simply coming together. 💙
